Gameweek 37 Best Wildcard Team

Using the fixture ticker and underlying stats of Fantasy Football Scout’s members area, we pick the best Gameweek 37 Wildcard team.

In Fantasy Premier League (FPL), an activated Wildcard chip allows managers to transform their squad by making an unlimited number of free transfers in that Gameweek. It lasts beyond that one round and is, in fact, your new team.

FIXTURE TICKER

Below we can see that the fixture ticker covers the final two Gameweeks.

Who has the best and worst fixtures?

Unsurprisingly at such a late stage, the six teams that play twice in this penultimate Gameweek are also the top six until the end. Spurs are deemed to have the most favourable collection but they’re also on a run of four successive defeats. Meanwhile, Chelsea have lost just one in 12 and Newcastle are scoring goals for fun.

At the other end, the likes of Fulham, Wolves and West Ham should be avoided. Although their assets are already barely owned.

GAMEWEEK 37 BEST WILDCARD TEAM

The fantastic Plan FPL allows managers to plan transfers weeks in advance. This means we can use it to create Wildcard drafts.

Goalkeepers

Those using their Wildcard this week aren’t able to Bench Boost – if they intend to use it in Gameweek 38, their list of substitutes needs better depth.

However, similar to our Free Hit selection, Djordje Petrovic (£4.6m) gets the nod in goal due to Chelsea’s consecutive clean sheets and general good form. Once the Blues feature twice in Gameweek 37, they host Bournemouth on the final day.

These Cherries have recently been starting budget stopper Mark Travers (£4.0m) over Neto (£4.7m).

Defenders

Meanwhile, despite ‘Pep Roulette’ making it hard to ever trust a Man City defender, Josko Gvardiol (£5.1m) is trying to make himself undroppable. The Croatian international has three goals and two assists from his latest six outings, in all competitions.

Pedro Porro (£5.8m) has more shots (47) and expected goal involvements (xGI, 8.45) than anyone else in his position. With Burnley and Sheffield United on the horizon, the Spurs full-back has haul potential.

As for the third starter, we look across north London towards Gabriel (£5.4m). Although having only one Arsenal defender could be slightly risky, considering their high levels of ownership are justified by nine clean sheets from 13 matches.

On the bench is Dan Burn (£4.6m) and Jarrad Branthwaite (£4.4m).

Midfielders

There’s a temptation to select Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) or Anthony Gordon (£6.3m), knowing they’re about to have Double Gameweek 37.

But Bukayo Saka (£9.0m) has already punished the 521,000 that sold him before consecutive double-digit hauls. He’s back in form, on penalties and follows his single Gameweek with a final-day Everton clash.

Alongside him as FPL’s top points scorer so far is Cole Palmer (£6.2m). He’s been a breathtaking addition to the game, grabbing 11 goals and three assists over eight recent matches. It makes him arguably the biggest ‘must-have’ individual, with promising fixtures coming up.

Just when frustrated Son Heung-min (£9.9m) owners were about to witness another anonymous blank, he netted a consolation at Anfield to remind them that he’s capable of netting at any time. The South Korean international hosts Burnley and Man City, where Phil Foden (£8.4m) should be on show.

He was relatively quiet with ‘just’ an assist at the weekend but three of his previous five starts brought at least two goals and 15 points.

Pick number five is back-up Callum Hudson-Odoi (£4.7m). When fit, he can be a devastating player – something Sheffield United discovered on Saturday. The winger bagged a brace and also scored in the reverse meeting with Gameweek 38 opponents Burnley.

Forwards

Up front, Erling Haaland (£14.2m) answered some high-profile critics by banging four goals past Wolves in Gameweek 36. The Man City leads the way for goals (25), attempts (112), shots on target (55) and big chances (51).

The Norwegian is joined by Alexander Isak (£8.4m) and Nicolas Jackson (£6.9m). Newcastle forward Isak missed a weekend penalty, so it’ll be interesting to see if he keeps spot-kick duties when Callum Wilson (£7.8m) is also playing. He’s netted on seven successive home occasions and begins Double Gameweek 37 at St James’ Park versus Brighton.

Finally, the many managers who’d recently bought Jackson probably did so nervously, knowing he had a Darwin-like reputation for missing big chances. But his midweek goal against Spurs was immediately followed by 16 points at home to West Ham, putting him in great form.

We take a look at the best players to buy in each position for Gameweek 36 here.
