Serie A Fantasy top picks for Round 2

Italian League football continues and with that so does the fantasy football game. With that in mind we take a look at the Serie A Fantasy top picks for Round 2 with the help of our expert and regular contributor @FPL_Crisk.

The Twitter community is full of some of the best fantasy managers in the world so catching up with our experts top picks for Round 2 could be crucial. Knowing which players have the most potential could help confirm decisions in our own teams as we head towards the deadline.

Goalkeepers – Rui Patricio (€5.0m – 21.3%)

Roma conceded twice against Salernitana, with both goals coming from a low xG chance beautifully delivered by Candreva. In fact, those were the only two shots on Roma’s goal in the whole game. If you defend that well (xGC of 0.36) you’re bound to get a clean sheet sooner rather than later, and I think that the matchup against Verona (who won, but didn’t create a lot away at Empoli) is in their favour. Patricio is also the cheapest nailed way into Roma’s backline.

Yann Sommer (€5.0m – 14.3%)

In this case, fans of statistics and eye-test will tend to agree. Inter decisively beat Monza without conceding a chance with more than 0.10 xG, let alone concede a goal. At the same time, Cagliari managed a scoreless draw against Torino, without being able to produce any good quality chances.

On paper this is the safest defensive pick of the weekend with Sommer being a great shot stopper and being the most nailed and cheapest way into the Inter defence which could soon be strengthened should they sign Benjamin Pavard.

Defenders – Giorgio Scalvini (€4.8m – 14.0%)

Atalanta looked surprisingly solid at the back away at Sassuolo and are now going to face newly promoted Frosinone, which against Napoli produced the lowest xG value of the weekend (0.11) if we don’t take the penalty kick into account. With the wingback situation being uncertain due to rotation, my choice falls into the Italian international, who is pretty much guaranteed to play the full game and comes at a surprisingly low price for a nailed defender of a European level side.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€7.4m – 20.3%)

What I said last week about Di Lorenzo still counts, but now that we have seen how Napoli play he looks even better. Against Frosinone he managed five key passes, two of which ended up assisting Osimhen’ goals. He also played the full 90 minutes, ending the week with 13 points, second highest in the game between defenders. Now he has a home fixture against Sassuolo, who we have seen not being very productive in the first fixture.

Midfielders – Paulo Dybala (€11.0m – 8.8%)

The “Joya” was suspended for Roma’s first matchup, and given his output last season I cannot wait to see him in action again. Roma, despite the draw, are in the top three teams in the league for xG right now, and with Dybala (and Pellegrini) back in the side, their offensive potential is very high.

Charles De Ketelaere (€5.8m – 4.6%)

I was thinking of putting Koopmeiners instead of the Belgian, but the Dutch midfielders played a little bit too deep for my taste, and only managed one shot in the whole game (from a corner). On the other hand, the Milan loanee in around 40 minutes managed get three very decent chances, one of which ended up on the post, while one was converted into a goal. In fact, De Ketelaere alone accounts for 50% of Atalanta’s entire xG against Sassuolo (0.76 of 1.50). Even if not certain of a start, he seems to know where he needs to be in order to be extremely dangerous.

Forwards – Victor Osimhen (€12.0m – 71.6%)

He was a top pick last week, he’s a top pick this week, and there is a good chance he’s going to be a top pick many times in the future. He and Lautaro Martinez both performed really well, but in the end I decided the Napoli striker was the one to confirm on this list. Not only is his fixture at home against a Sassuolo team who didn’t look good at defending headers, but he will probably be able to count once again on a returning Kvaratskhelia, who will make Napoli’s attack even better. Osmihen walks into the top picks for Round 2.

Ciro Immobile (€10.6m – 17.6%)

Lazio offensively underperformed in a losing effort to Lecce. On the other hand, their opponents this weekend, Genoa, conceded four goals to Fiorentina from the only four shots in the box that they managed to concede. Lazio create a lot but struggle to score, while Genoa tend to concede with every opponent’s chance. This makes the Italian striker an amazing option. Against Lecce not only did he score, but he was also involved in the other three great chances that Lazio had to double their score (all these chances are over 0.35 xG).
