Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 2 expert picks and team

Last modified date

With a new round ahead, we look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 2 expert picks and team thoughts. @FPLGunnersaurus (Jay) joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 2 expert picks can help hugely for the round ahead.

Top picks – defenders – Jeremie Frimpong (14.4m / 35% TSB / B04)

One of two priority transfers in for me, the Dutch full-back carried on where he left off last season with 15 points in Bundesliga Fantasy despite his side conceding twice on MD1. Basically playing as a right-winger he also returned both a goal and an assist in that game and up against a leaky ‘Gladbach defence on MD2 and newly promoted Darmstadt on MD3, managers should look to bring him in as soon as possible.

Benjamin Henrichs (11.2m / 7% TSB / RBL)

The first of the trifecta of Leipzig recommendations this matchday is German international right-back Henrichs. Henrichs may have conceded three times last time out but he still managed to rack up 10 points in the fantasy game, eight of those alone for goal attempts. If he can fire off that many shots against a team like Leverkusen we could see plenty of attacking returns on MD2 when his side host Stuttgart.

Alphonso Davies (15.4m / 28% TSB / FCB)

I would be remiss to mention the man who top scored in the fantasy game on MD1 and my other priority transfer in this matchday. The Canadian amassed a huge 32 points, which included 22 points for attacking returns (10 points for assists and 12 points for passes to a shot). Bremen left a lot of space open down the left for Davies so you would think MD2 opponents Augsburg have a plan for him. However, Davies may foil that and go big again.

Notable Mentions

  • Günter (12.1m – SCF)
  • Bensebaini (11.9m ON SALE – BVB)
  • Mazraoui (11.3m – FCB), Raum (11.1m – RBL)
  • Gosens (9.9m ON SALE – FCU), Grimaldo (9.8m – B04)
  • Hummels (9.4m – BVB)
  • Kadeřábek (8.2m – TSG)

Midfielders – Vincenzo Grifo (15.2m / 12% TSB / SCF)

Freiburg host an out of sorts Bremen side who were thumped by Bayern on MD1 and who also exited the DFB Pokal at the first round stage losing to 3. Liga opposition. Everything Freiburg does, including all set pieces, goes through Grifo, evidenced by a record season in 22-23 for the Italian having picked up 15 goals and five assists. You might be screaming ‘mamma mia’ (like me potentially) if you don’t pick him up ahead of MD2.

Jonas Hofmann (15.3m / 10% TSB / B04)

Hofmann returns to his old stomping ground on MD2 with a trip to Borussia-Park against Mönchengladbach. Alonso’s Leverkusen are already looking very impressive, which is not what can be said of The Foals’ defence having shipped four goals in a 4-4 draw away to Augsburg and having faced 20 shots in total. Between Hofmann and Wirtz there’s not much to split them, but if your budget allows (which mine doesn’t) go for Hofmann.

Dani Olmo (14.1m / 32% owned / RBL)

After netting a hat trick in the Super Cup the Spanish star scored again on MD1. Olmo is on a roll at the moment and at 32% owned I can’t see myself not owning him ahead of the Friday night home game against Stuttgart. Again this is a Stuttgart side who barely survived last season. Olmo is also looking like the likely candidate for my star midfielder this matchday with Musiala out injured, and I can see that being the case for many others too.

Notable Mentions

  • Brandt (15.3m – BVB)
  • Kimmich (15.2m – FCB)
  • Wirtz (14.3m – B04)
  • Simons (12.6m ON SALE – RBL)
  • Kainz (11m – KOE)
  • Sallai (9.4m – SCF)
  • Svanberg (9.4m – WOB)
  • Ngoumou (6.3m – BMG)

Forwards – Kevin Behrens (9.4m / 4% TSB / FCU)

Behrens celebrated the start to his third Bundesliga season with Die Eisernen by bagging a hat trick at home in a 4-1 thumping victory over Mainz. Up next for Union Berlin is an away trip to newly promoted Darmstadt at Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor. Fans of Die Lilien will surely be rocking the stadium in a festival like atmosphere, but it’ll be Behrens and Union Berlin looking to spoil the party.

Loïs Openda (14.2m / 15% TSB / RBL)

The Belgian international striker scored on his Bundesliga debut, albeit in a 3-2 away loss as Leverkusen. Die Roten Bullen host Stuttgart in the Friday night game on MD2, with Leipzig heavy favourites to pick up the win. Stuttgart may have won 5-0 on MD1 however they will not be facing Bochum every week. I also expect Leipzig’s record signing to continue his great form and pick up some points for managers here.

Harry Kane (15.4m / 58% TSB / FCB)

It should go without saying but I’ll say it anyway – Harry Kane should be part of every manager’s squad. For some reason 42% of all managers don’t own the England captain, which could spell trouble if you don’t pick him up ahead of hosting Augsburg on MD2. Already with a goal and assist to his name, Kane is also likely to be the star forward of choice once again this weekend for the 58% of managers who own him.

Notable Mentions

  • Sané (14.4m – FCB)
  • Malen (14.2m – BVB)
  • Werner (13m – RBL)
  • Gregoritsch (12.3m – SCF)
  • Kramarić (12.3m – TSG)
  • Boniface (12.2m – B04)
  • Wind (10.4m – WOB)
  • Dinkçi (3.6m ON SALE – HDH)
