Community Team Reveal Gameweek 7 – Marc Jobling

Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.

Ahead of Gameweek 7, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.

Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. So how did Gameweek 6 go?

80 points was enough to bring a rise in rankings but not enough to make up for the devastating drop of Gameweek 5. My goalkeeper Andre Onana finally returned, as did the back three of Sven Botman, Ruben Dias and Pervis Estupinan.

Three of my middle five registered at least nine points but, unfortunately, so many other midfielders did too. Because Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-min and Kaoru Mitoma all hauled, the move from 759k to 566k wasn’t as good as it felt like it was being.

Additionally, my two transfers were a mixed bag. Removing Ben Chilwell for Botman instead of Dias went superbly but Julian Alvarez – bought by over 1.3 million managers – decided to blank. At least the outgoing Nicolas Jackson wasn’t able to do better.

What does your defence look like?

So far, FPL defenders have been a bit disappointing throughout the game. I’ve had two of the successes since day one – Pervis Estupinan and Destiny Udogie – whilst I’m relieved to already be on the Newcastle back line.

Both Onana and Dias will probably depart in upcoming weeks but, at the same time, I don’t feel like much is being missed out on.

I don’t like defensive double-ups or investing too much into my team Newcastle, so probably not Kieran Trippier. Arsenal were covered with Gabriel, only to see him benched for the first three matches. Perhaps an Aston Villa defender like Matty Cash can soon enter.

Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?

Crystal Palace’s defence is very solid, conceding the third-fewest shots on target (19), so the prospects of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have me nervous. I have a Manchester double up front too, where Alvarez gets one more week to impress.

Another name I’ve had since the start is Bryan Mbeumo but he’s blanked in three of the last four. If it happens again versus Nottingham Forest, I might have to contemplate a sale.

And then there’s the knocks picked up by James Maddison and Bukayo Saka. The former seems confident that he’s fine but Mikel Arteta said “it’s a possibility” that Saka misses out on Bournemouth.

So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 7 and beyond?

It depends on those two, really. If both miss out, I may take a rare four-point hit to acquire Salah and push Wildcard plans much further down the road.

Whereas a sole Saka absence might put me towards either Son or Jarrod Bowen.

However, if both are fine, I’m really not sure. The only Double Gameweek 7 asset that could tempt me is Carlton Morris but I probably won’t. It’s likely better to just roll the free transfer rather than use it to swap Onana.

The aim is ultimately to get Salah but it’s difficult to know which Man United midfielder makes way, as they keep alternating good performances. Maybe things become clearer after a few more weeks.

Finally, what about captaincy?

Oh the usual Erling Haaland. Nobody else has an obvious fixture and certainly doesn’t have the same track record of reliability. It’s boring but effective.

Good luck and thank you for the team reveal!
