Best players from Group F Matchday 1
The World Cup is now well underway. With a focus on the matches played between Morocco v Tunisia and Belgium v Canada on Thursday, we look at who were the best players from Group F Matchday 1 to highlight which players played well for World Cup Fantasy managers.
Looking at who were the best players from Group F Matchday 1 can help focus on the best performing assets. Whether the players returned points or not, it could be beneficial for fantasy managers to know which players looked bright and have the potential to return.
Achraf Hakimi
Morocco faced a meeting against Croatia in Matchday 1 and it was a game where the defensive assets stood tall. One of those assets was Moroccan Achraf Hakimi (£5m). Defensively, Hakimi was fantastic. He stopped the Croatian attack with plenty of successful ground and aerial duels.
Hakimi did show signs of offensive potential though. He spent more time in the opponent’s half than he did his own and even had a very good shot on target. Hakimi finished the game on six points in World Cup Fantasy and it could have been more.
Borna Sosa
Croatia really struggled to break Morocco down and that was reflected in the 0-0 score-line. Although that was the case, it was not due to the lack of trying. Borna Sosa (£3.5m) came into the match as one of the most exciting assets in World Cup Fantasy for Croatia.
Sosa did try to get forward and was extremely close to creating an assist after a dangerous pass into the box. The defender may have failed to return a goal contribution, but his great defensive display helped earn him his six clean sheet points.
Toby Alderweireld
Staying with good defensive plays, we head to the fixture between Belgium v Canada. Canada were impressive and a lot better than many thought they would be. Canada were lively in attack and Belgium were struggling to deal with their attackers.
It was a very competitive match and Belgium couldn’t afford any mistakes at the back. Toby Alderweireld (5.5m) made clearance after clearance and although defensively solid, still managed to create an assist from an exceptional long ball. Alderweireld’s performance was rewarded with a huge nine points in World Cup Fantasy.
Richie Laryea
Canada may have struggled in front of goal but they were not short in creativity. The Canadians played with a wing back system against Belgium which meant their wingbacks had plenty of offensive potential. Richie Laryea (£3.5m) was one of them.
Laryea spent most of his time in the Belgian half, created four key passes and had two shots off target. Against a weaker opponent Laryea could have bags of potential for both defensive and offensive returns. His performance was brilliant but that failed to translate into points as returned just one point.
