Best Liverpool picks from 2021/22

Liverpool were unlucky to miss out on this seasons Premier League title. The reds finished just one point behind Manchester City. Liverpool won 28 matches, drew eight and lost just twice. We take a look at who the best FPL picks from Liverpool were this season. Understanding the top picks from 21/22 will aid FPL managers planning ahead of the 22/23 season.

Liverpool assets were popular picks with FPL managers this season. For a number of managers tripling up on the Merseyside team was a great strategy. However, deciding between the attacking and defensive double up was a challenge. Mo Salah was then most popular pick in the game throughout the season and he finished as the top points scorer in FPL this season.

Top for FPL points

Salah was Liverpool’s top points scorer this season as well as being the top scorer in the game. The midfielder returned 256 points. This was 57 points more than Trent Alexander-Arnold who was second for points scored at Liverpool.

Liverpool scored 94 goals this season.

Salah was Liverpool’s top goal scorer this season with 23 goals. He was tied top for goals scored this season across the league and shared the Golden Boot with Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min. Only three Liverpool players scored more than ten goals this season.

Liverpool had 17 different goal scorers over the course of the 21/22 season. 11 of the Liverpool goals this season were scored by defenders. Robertson and Van Dijk were their highest scoring defenders with three goals each.

Top playmaker

Salah was also top for assists at Liverpool this season with 14. Alexander-Arnold was second with 12, Robertson was third with 11 and Jota was fourth with seven.

Alexander-Arnold created the most chances for Liverpool this season with 90. This was 28 more than Salah who was second with 62 chances created. Robertson was third with 55.

Best defensive numbers

Liverpool kept 21 clean sheets this season. This was tied top with Man City and more than every other team in the League. They conceded just 26 goals, level with Man City, no other team conceded fewer.

Van Dijk was the only defender who registered all 21 clean sheets. He was the top defender clearances and blocks at Liverpool this season. He also registered six attacking returns during the campaign.

Alexander-Arnold supplied 273 crosses this season. He also took 131 corners and 23 free kicks, highlighting his route to points.

Matip was also the best value player in the game this season. The defender earned 32.1 points per million this season, making him highly attractive option for the 22/23 season.

Overall

Liverpool are likely to be in the race for the title again in the 2022/23 season. The underlying stats also suggest that they should be high on FPL managers wish lists. When the fixture lists are announced on the 16th of June managers will likely be deciding whether to double up in attack or with Liverpool’s talented defenders.
