Best Captain for Gameweek 37

The new round of Fantasy Premier League is approaching so we take a look at the candidates and pick out the best captain for Gameweek 37. To do this we use some of the fantastic tools in the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area.

As we approach the latter stages of the competition picking the right captain will be absolutely crucial for rank and mini-league position. As tempting as it is to go against the crowd, giving the armband to the player with the most factors backing them tends to be the best option. So, lets take a look at who we should consider this week.

Gameweek 37 Fixtures

The Options – Cole Palmer

Chelsea seem to be clicking as of late. Although the Blues won just three of their last six matches, two of those wins came in their last two – beating West Ham 5-0 and Tottenham 2-0. Statistically in the last six Gameweeks they rank second best for total goals scored, fourth best for total attempts on goal, the best for big chances total and second best for total shots on target.

It’s a Double Gameweek for Chelsea this week as they come up against Nottingham Forest and Brighton. The former haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last last league games and the latter have conceded 3-4 goals in three of their last five matches.

Nothing has massively changed in regards to Cole Palmer (£6.2m) being the main man for Chelsea. In his last six league matches the penalty taker has produced a huge eight goals and one assist. His data is also impressive as he sits first for total goals scored, top for total attempts on goal and joint first for big chances total.

Erling Haaland

There has been no stopping Manchester City recently. The title chasers have won all six of their last matches on the bounce whilst racking up a mammoth 24 goals. They are also producing good underlying offensive data – ranking top for total goals scored, third best for total attempts on goal, second best for big chances total and joint first for total shots on target.

Two opponents lay ahead for Manchester City, one of them being Tottenham. Tottenham are in a terrible run of form – losing their last four matches whilst also conceding 13 goals. Fulham are the other team Manchester City face and defensively things have been inconsistent all season for them too.

Leading the relentless Manchester City attack is Erling Haaland (£14.2m). The Norwegian appears to be gaining momentum since his recent injury, scoring in all of his last four matches and racking up seven goals in the same period. When compared to every other player recently he sits second best for total goals scored and joint second best for big chances total.

Alexander Isak

Newcastle are another side who have impressed recently. The Magpies have won four of their last six matches and banked 15 goals during the same period. When it comes to their data they also rank amongst the top five teams for most key attacking metrics.

Brighton lay ahead for Newcastle who play at home, a venue they have netted 14 goals in the last four matches at. We have already seen that Brighton have shipped at least three goals in three of their last five league games. Manchester United complete Newcastle’ Double Gameweek. No team in the league in the last six Gameweeks have conceded more attempts on goal than the Reds.

One player who has been extremely influential for Newcastle lately is Alexander Isak (£8.4m). Isak has found the net six times in his last six league matches. Data shows Isak ranks second best for non-penalty expected goal involvement, the best for big chances on goal and joint third for total shots in the box.

Who is the Best Captain for Gameweek 37?

Alexander Isak is a very good captaincy option for the round ahead. However, the return of Callum Wilson and his recent penalty miss raises some doubts over his penalty duty, position and minutes moving forward.

Cole Palmer is also another great option. The Englishman is in great form and plays for a side scoring lots of goals. The fact he doesn’t lead the Chelsea attack however could well be enough to give another option the edge.

Erling Haaland is the best captaincy option for Gameweek 37. Not only is his side in formidable scoring form but the Norwegian’ recent four goal game in the latest round is a good example of how explosive he can be.
