Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 20?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 20.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over the last four Gameweeks:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over these four Gameweeks:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

Due a goal in Gameweek 20

As the last check was conducted before Gameweek 18, there have been almost two full rounds of action since.

Many of those names have therefore disappeared. Mohamed Salah‘s goal versus Arsenal means he’s scored two in four, Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t had enough shots whilst Anthony Gordon‘s xG has been low.

Ranked by xG

Pascal Gross remains, although this is being published before the final two matches of Gameweek 19 – Brighton v Tottenham and Arsenal v West Ham. His creativity and goal threat has shot up in recent times and the Seagulls will need him even more now that both Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra are injured. Team-mate Jack Hinshelwood also makes an appearance.

Meanwhile, there’s a Newcastle pair in the form of Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak. The Magpies’ form has fallen off a cliff, with their promising season in danger of already being over. There’s fan frustration over the one-footed Almiron, who almost scored a bizarre own goal in the Nottingham Forest defeat. No player had more penalty area attempts (six) or shots on target (five) than Isak in Gameweek 19 but Anthony Elanga terrorised them on the counter.

Of the others, Julian Alvarez seems set to start up front for Man City against Sheffield United in the continued absence of Erling Haaland. Opposing forward Cameron Archer just bagged an assist but no Gameweek 19 player had a higher xG without scoring (0.76).
