Top picks for GAFFR Gameweek 38

The Championship is heating up as we head into the latter stages of the season. It’s a quick turnaround this week. Because of that we bring in our regular contributor @TomP_FF. He takes us through all of the top picks for GAFFR Gameweek 38.

Top picks can be extremely helpful to the GAFFR community. Knowing who the best players to buy week in week out can be super beneficial. It can also help with things like transfers, captaincy, chip strategy and long-term planning.

Defenders – Darnell Furlong

The Baggies have been one of the best defences in the Championship this season – keeping a huge 15 clean sheets already. They come up against Bristol City next up, a side who have lost four of their last five matches. Darnell Furlong is the standout defender option having scored three and producing two assists this season.

Leif Davis

Prior to their shock loss against Cardiff in the last match Ipswich won six matches on the bounce. This saw them sit just four points off top spot. They play at home this week and against 23rd place Sheffield Wednesday. Leif Davis has big potential this week and with a goal and a mammoth 14 assists already this campaign, some may even consider giving him an armband.

Differential Defender – Michał Helik

Michał Helik has proved time and time again he can can be a major goal threat. The Huddersfield centre-back has managed a massive nine goals this season which is astounding. He faces a Rotherham team who have failed to scored in all three of their last matches.

Midfielders – Crysencio Summerville

Leeds have been brilliant recently – winning nine of their last 10 matches and because of that sit just three point behind first placer Leicester. They have a great chance to extend that form with a home match against Millwall next up. Crysencio Summerville continues his mini-slump, having failed to score in any of his last six matches. But, with 23 attacking returns under his belt this season, that may not last.

Michael Johnston

West Brom have been racking up the goals recently – scoring a huge eight in their last three matches. Helping them score those goals was Michael Johnston who hasn’t just started all three of their last matches but also collected four goals and one assist in the meantime.

Differential Midfielder – Sorba Thomas

Huddersfield have a very good opportunity this week. They come up against a Rotherham side who aren’t just in woeful form but they have also shipped a massive 17 goals in their last five matches. One player who could take advantage of that is Sorba Thomas who has amassed four goals and nine assists already this campaign.

Forwards – Georginio Rutter

If the Championship was based on home form, Leeds would be a huge six points ahead of first place Leicester and sit pretty at the top of the league. The home match against Millwall this week could mean enough Leeds goals to invest in Georginio Rutter. Rutter has been one of their most reliable assets in terms of gametime recently and has also managed four returns in his last five games.

Conor Chaplin

Another team who have been excellent at home, which is where they play this week, is Ipswich. In their last three home matches Ipswich won and scored at least three goals in each. Sheffield Wednesday lay ahead which could mean potential for Conor Chaplin who has scored two goals and created one assist in his last four matches.

Differential Forward – Josh Sargent

Stoke have been hit and miss recently which is good for Norwich who go into the game off the back of a 5-0 win against Rotherham. One of the most in-from strikers in the league at the moment is Josh Sargent who has scored eight goals in his last 10 matches.
