Should managers roll their Gameweek 2 transfer?

The new Premier League season is officially underway and many of us have to think carefully about whether to save our transfers. With that in mind and the new round ahead we see if managers should roll their Gameweek 2 transfer in FPL.

The use of transfers can be justified based on lots of different factors. From injuries to form and fixtures swings to bans managers will be monitoring everything through the round to see if they can roll their Gameweek 2 transfers.

Being patient

The new Fantasy Premier League season has only just begun. With that in mind it could be wise for managers to stay patient. Barring any key injuries or bans, the most experienced managers tend to bank their transfer for the following week after taking in more information on team and player form.

Injuries and bans

For those unlucky enough to fall victim to a key injury or ban in Gameweek 1 then rolling the transfer can seem difficult. If you are in a position where your are not happy with your bench going into Gameweek 2 then using the free transfer could be a good idea.

Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker after Gameweek 2. The ticker orders the teams at the top with the easiest matches all the way down to the teams at the bottom with the toughest matches.

The fixture ticker can be really useful to spot fixture swings which can also help us decide if managers should roll their Gameweek 2 transfer.

We can see teams like Chelsea and Tottenham have some great fixtures between Gameweek 3 and Gameweek 5. Rolling the transfer in Gameweek 2 could help in two ways here. The first is that monitoring how Chelsea and Tottenham play in Gameweek 1 and 2 could be key before investing. The second is that their fixtures improve massively so targeting their players with extra transfers could be very useful.

Another interesting difficulty swing is that of Brighton. They start the season with some fantastic fixtures. However, after Gameweek 3 they face Newcastle, Manchester United and Aston Villa. This could suggest having free transfers to hand may be beneficial if looking to move their assets on.

Avoiding hits

The term ‘hits’ in FPL comes from using transfer/s we do not have available to use. For every extra transfer used after free transfers, managers will be deducted minus four points. This can have a negative impact on both rank and mini-league position.

The most experienced FPL managers usually avoid taking hits in single Gameweeks. To navigate the fixture swings above without taking hits it could be wise to roll as many transfers as possible going into Gameweek 3 and beyond.

Conclusion

The longer we avoid using a transfer the more information we can gather to make future decisions so staying patient and rolling the transfer can help in that respect.

The fixture swings are also massive factors to consider as well – being able to target teams and players with good fixtures ahead without the use of a hit could be important. This can be the same with moving off teams with negative fixture swings such as Brighton.

Rolling the transfer in Gameweek 2 could be absolutely key. However, for those that suffer key injuries or bans then you may have good enough reason to use them.
