Notes

  • I don’t see a standout double up in goal. This is because most of the SGW fallbacks from the late weekend games playing away from home. I’ve gone with Chris Brady so far as my primary goalkeeper and Yohei Takaoka as my fallback. However, that may change if a better combination emerges before the midweek fixtures.
  • Brooks Lennon and Álvaro Barreal are top of my list for defensive picks due to their attacking output, despite tricky fixtures for Barreal in particular. Rafael Czichos and Dave Romney are also included as they place twice at home.
  • My final defensive spot is occupied by Julio Cascante. While I’m not sure Austin keep a clean sheet in either of their DGW fixtures, Cascante’s attacking and bonus point potential makes him worthy of inclusion.
  • In midfield, Carles Gil and Ryan Gauld are easy selections thanks to their two home fixtures, with Gil likely to be my captain for this round. Emmanuel Reynoso and Héctor Herrera are also near-certain inclusions due to their favourable fixtures and high points floor.
  • My final midfield spot is up from grabs. It is currently occupied by Thiago Almada, who has the fixtures to score well this week (away to New England and at home to Orlando); however, Lucho Acosta, Hany Mukhtar and the in-form Pablo Ruiz are also in my thoughts.
  • Upfront, Dénis Bouanga and Alan Pulido are both locks in my team. Bouanga continues to post impressive offensive stats despite LAFC’s ongoing slump while Pulido is on a tear in front of goal at the moment. The only thing to watch is Pulido’s availability, as he was substituted late against Houston on Saturday night. Chicho Arango will likely occupy my final slot if he is added to the game before the DGW kicks off!
  • RSL’s new striker scored on his debut against Orlando last round and has proven MLS pedigree from his time at LAFC. If Arango isn’t available, I will likely pivot to his RSL strike partner, Jefferson Savarino, Brian White or Gustavo Bou.

  • GK – Chris Brady  (CHI; 7.4): Chris Brady, who collected a clean sheet in two of his previous three games, is one of the goalkeepers who might get two starts at home this week. In addition, each of Montréal’s last three games, as well as Toronto FC’s, ended in a shutout.
  • DEF: Brooks Lennon (ATL; 11.4): In his last two outings, Brooks Lennon has accrued 29 points after scoring in back-to-back contests and preserving two clean sheets during that time. Regardless of the opponent, Lennon has shown he’s one of the best two-way defenders in MLS over his last four games with two goals and an assist.
  • MID: Carles Gil (NE; 12.9); Carles Gil is rested up after his yellow card suspension and ready for two home games this week. Gil’s seven goals and nine assists make for the fourth most goal contributions in the league.
  • FOR: Denis Bouanga (LAFC; 11.1m); Denis Bouanga converted a penalty kick in his last outing to finish with 13 points in Round 20. He has in total 12 goals and two assists in 19 games. Bouanga is the focal point of their attack. and his four-week average is 6.5. He also now registered over 20 shots across his last four appearances.

  • The first name on my team-sheet this week is Gil ($12.9m) who has two really good home games and will take the captains armband. He’ll be joined in my starting midfield by Driussi ($9.6m), Acosta ($13.4m) and Ruiz ($10.6m).
  • On the bench will be Gauld ($11.2m). My ‘keeper-roo this week will consist of two ‘keepers that are hardly setting the world on fire in recent GW’s – but both have two decent home games to rectify that.
  • Takaoka ($6.6m) will be my starting ‘keeper that I’ll scrub if Petrovic ($8.8m) does well in the early game. My three starting defenders will be Gomes ($12.3m), Lennon ($11.4m) and Glad ($9.5m) with Czichos ($8.1m)taking a bench spot.
  • My starting striker will be Pulido ($9.4m) with Herbers ($5.1m) taking the last place on the bench.

Notes

  • 94 Points last round which sent me into red and down to 1292 in rank.
  • Swiderski clicked which was nice but no double this week.
  • A bunch of doubles and NE and VAN are home for both matches.
  • ATL and RSL also have good players on DGWs.
