MLS Fantasy Round 4 Team Reveals

We look to the new round of Major League Soccer and take a look at some MLS Fantasy Round 4 team reveals. Our experts come in to reveal their teams, highlight switcheroos, and share their captains for the new round ahead.

Our MLS Fantasy Round 4 team reveals can be extremely helpful to other fantasy managers. Creating a new squad every week can be quite overwhelming and intimidating but with our help that could become a lot easier and more enjoyable.

Notes

  • I’m once again looking to minimise spending on goalkeepers. Despite positive noises out of Seattle last week, it looks like Stefan Frei will still be unavailable this weekend, thus allowing me to play $5.4m Andrew Thomas and release funds for use elsewhere.
  • Tomás Gómez is a scrub who I hopefully won’t have to upgrade.
  • In defence, I’ve paired Thomas with Jackson Ragen and brought in Jake Davis, with Seattle and SKC both having decent clean sheet odds this week. Brooks Lennon is a late-game fallback with both offensive and clean sheet potential.
  • On my bench, Allan Arrigoni is a low-risk, high-reward pick: he has a decent fixture and, at $4.0m, cannot drop further in price even if he fails to keep a clean sheet.
  • My other $4.0m defender, Alex Freeman, is my one and only outfield scrub (for now). I have $2.1m in the bank to upgrade in case both of my bench defenders are busts.
  • In midfield, Emil Forsberg, Carles Gil and Riqui Puig are among a handful of players who look to be reliably producing bonus points following the introduction of the new scoring system. All three are locks in my team providing they avoid rotation.
  • The same appears to be true of Thiago Almada, who has a favourable home matchup against a faltering, CONCACAF Champions Cup-weary Orlando City side and is currently favourite to take the captain’s armband.
  • My midfield punt this week is Johnny Russell. As mentioned, SKC have the fixture and like my other midfielders, Russell looks to have decent bonus point production, scoring 12 points in the last two rounds despite no goals or assists.
  • Upfront, Tata Martino revealed that Lionel Messi is unlikely to be available for Inter Miami’s game with DC United after subbing off early against Nashville on Wednesday. Even so, there are multiple viable forwards this week, with Christian Benteke (if fit), Jesús Ferreira, Cucho Hernández, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Dejan Joveljic all capable of hauling given their form and fixtures.
  • I’ve currently opted for Cucho, Giakoumakis and Joveljic, although I haven’t ruled out swapping the latter for Ferreira.

  • Two of the best CS options this week are Seattle hosting Colorado and SKC hosting San Jose. That is why I’m doubling up on that Seattle defence and have Jake Davis.
  • LAG should wreck Saint Louis at home this week, so attacking coverage is a must. I have Puig and Paintsil for that reason.
  • Atlanta should also dominate a tired and defensively struggling Orlando side. Lennon, Almada, and Giakoumakis are on my team for that reason and should seriously be considered. This is why I also have the armband on Almada.
  • Benteke and Russell both have interesting matchups and the potential to hit big which is why they are on my bench. Russell also has had some sneaky good underlying numbers.
  • Gil is a placeholder in my team right now. He could also be Forsberg depending on what we see in that line-up.
  • Arigoni is on my bench only as a cheap option who can’t lose value. I hope to get some surprise points there and maybe some value gain.
  • While Cucho is playing a decent defence and played midweek in CCC, it is hard not to pick him every week.

Notes

  • Only 53 points with RSL letting me down and a red arrow to 1493 in the last round. Overall Lloris and a late switch from scrub to Keller were bright spots.
  • I am banking on ATL and LA this week with good home matchups.
  • Going light in defence with little money in the bank to upgrade on Sunday if I need to.
  • Have a rare road keeper in pole position but will play around with options here.

Notes

  • GK: Andrew Thomas (SEA; 5.4m); In terms of pricing and clean sheet potential, Thomas appears to be among the finest GK choices this round. Colorado haven’t been scoring well this season.
  • MID: Thiago Almada (ATL; 9.4m); Almada is a good pick this round at home vs Orlando who are not the strongest in defence.
  • MID: Carles Gil (NER; 10.5m); Gil has returned 26 points in the first three starts this season, He is high in key passes so far. He is nailed in my team.
  • FOR: Cucho Hernandez (CLB; 10.5m ); Cucho Hernández came third in the hunt for the Audi Golden Boot last season and he normally launches numerous shots. He is playing at home vs NYRB and he stands out as perhaps the one of league’s most dangerous attacker.
