FPL: Best Budget Players for Gameweek 21

We pick out the best budget players for Gameweek 21. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker and underlying stats we provide some of the best cheap players, whether that be goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders or forwards for the round ahead.

Finding some of the best budget players for Gameweek 21 can be extremely useful to managers. Cheap players are vital when it comes to trying to fit in the more expensive options and can even be great standalone assets.

Fixtures

Below we can see the ticker in order of fixture difficulty. The teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.

Luton

Luton have been showcasing some fantastic performances recently against heavy weights like Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City. To the surprise of many, the Hatters also rank in the top five teams for goals scored in the last six Gameweeks.

Most of the Luton appeal comes from the fact that they face Burnley this week. Unlike Luton, Burnley seem to be showing a lack of fight but more significantly maintaining a poor level of performances both offensively and defensively.

The cheapest route into the Luton defence could be centre-back Teden Mengi (£4m) who starts every match for his side. Offering much more attacking threat is wing-back Alfie Doughty (£4.5m). Doughty has been one of the most offensively successful defenders in the game recently. In fact, in the last six Gameweeks no defender has managed to create more assists than him with four.

Luton have also been amongst the goals recently – scoring two past Chelsea, three past Sheffield United and three past Arsenal. Investing into their frontline against a poor Burnley defence could be rewarding and the standout is Elijah Adebayo (£4.8m). Adebayo has been spearheading the Luton fight – netting four goals in the last six matches.

Brighton

Brighton have a great opportunity this week as they face-off with Wolves. The Seagulls kept their first clean sheet of the season in the last round which could mean we start to see them convert their good defensive data into several and soon.

In defence there is a clear standout pick. Centre-back Jan Paul Van Hecke comes in at just £4m and has also started the last 10 league matches for Brighton. Rotation is a concern for managers so knowing he has also played more minutes than any other defensive teammate except one is a huge boost to his appeal.

Efficient in attack Brighton are rarely short of goals. In fact, this season the Seagulls sit in the top six teams for metrics like shots in the box, big chances total and total shots on target. This bodes well for managers looking to invest in their frontline.

There is also a clear option in the Brighton attack as well. Whilst many opt for midfielder Pascal Groß (£6.4m) some could select a player who is a huge £1m cheaper, Joao Pedro (£5.4m). The Brazilian sits as the joint best in his side for total goals and assists combined this season and has played the third most minutes amongst his attacking teammates so far. A big bonus with Joao Pedro is that he takes penalties which only adds to his growing appeal. He could well be one of the best budget players for Gameweek 21.

Keane Lewis-Potter

Brentford have been extremely disappointing in recent matches. The loss of star player Bryan Mbeumo to injury has been a big one and telling in their performances. An additional loss is Yoane Wissa who is competing in AFCON with his national side. This may be the case but it is important to highlight that because of the above our next pick should be guaranteed minutes and the Bees also have their talisman Ivan Toney back this week.

Nottingham Forest lay ahead who have picked up back-to-back wins. But, Forest still lack defensively and have in fact managed just one clean sheet in their last 10 matches.

One way of targeting Nottingham Forest is Keane Lewis-Potter who sits at just £4.7m in FPL. Since his minutes have improved Potter has been fully involved – managing three returns in his last six matches.

Other great budget picks

West Ham have managed an impressive three cleans in their last three matches. The Hammers come up against Sheffield United next, the worst attack in the league. Because of this goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (£4.2m) remains a very good pick.

Another great budget gem could be Malo Gusto (£4.2m). The Chelsea right-back is likely to cover Reece James whilst he deals with another injury. He faces Fulham next up and as well as clean sheet potential Gusto has already racked up three assists this campaign, even with little gametime.

Manchester United midfielder Alejandro Garnacho (£4.8m) keeps starting for Manchester United. The winger has a meeting with Tottenham who have been conceding some concerning defensive data recently.
