FPL: Best Budget Players for Gameweek 17

We pick out the best budget players for Gameweek 17. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker and underlying stats we provide some of the best cheap players, whether that be goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders or forwards for the round ahead.

Finding some of the best budget players for Gameweek 17 can be extremely useful to managers. Cheap players are vital when it comes to trying to fit in the more expensive options and can even be great standalone assets.

Fixtures

Below we can see the ticker in order of fixture difficulty. The teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth are very interesting this week. The Cherries seems to stringing together a positive run of results recently – winning four of their five last league matches. During the same period they also netted an impressive 12 goals and kept three clean sheets.

With Luton up next the Bournemouth assets could have bags of potential. Luton are in very poor form – losing four of their last five matches. They also conceded a huge 11 goals, and failed to score in one of the same games.

The above suggests that we can look to Bournemouth’ attack and defence. In terms of defence centre-back Marcos Senesi (£4.4m) could be the standout. Senesi has scored in each of his last two matches which shows he has attacking threat.

In attack Dominic Solanke (£6.6m) avoids the budget bracket so the next best option could be midfielder Marcus Tavernier (£5.4m). Tavernier has banked two goals and two assists in his last four league matches. He also ranks second best behind Solanke for non-penalty expected goal involvement.

Chelsea

Chelsea may be frustrating FPL managers recently but this week could well be the best opportunity they have to pick up a win this season. The Blues have managed three clean sheets this season which puts them around mid-table but they also rank fourth best in the league for expected goals conceded.

Most of the Chelsea appeal this week comes from their opposition. Sheffield United have been woeful this season and currently sit at the bottom of the table. The Blades are also producing the worst defensive and attacking data in the league this campaign.

One of the best routes into the defence could be Levi Colwill (£4.6m). Not only has Colwill got clean sheet potential this week but he also has attacking threat – scoring in one of his most recent matches.

In attack Cole Palmer (£5.4m) is still a fantastic route into the Chelsea attack. The fact he takes penalties is a big appeal but he also ranks third best amongst the Chelsea attackers for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six Gameweeks.

Everton

Everton look like a side who are on a great path in terms of results and confidence. The Toffees have claimed three victories on the bounce – beating opposition like Newcastle and Chelsea. In the same matches Everton kept clean sheets in all of them and scored six goals.

Another great opportunity lays ahead for Everton as they clash with newly promoted side Burnley. Burnley, similar to the other promoted sides, have been extremely disappointing since returning to the Premier League. In fact, they sit 19th and rank second worst in the league for goals conceded and third worst for goals scored.

With the information above its safe to say that investing in Everton, both offensively and defensively could be a great move. At the back goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (£4.4m) could be the standout. The England international picked up returns in all three of his last matches.

In attack there are several cheap options we could go for. Leading the attack and taking the penalties is striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.8m) who also picked up an assist last match. Another good option could be Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.5m). He has managed two double-digit hauls in his last five matches.
