Taking a look back at the head-to-head data to find some of the best players for Gameweek 14 could be really helpful to managers. Picking out assets who have great records against their upcoming opponent can help with transfers, captaincy and even chip strategy.

Note: You can find all of the best players in each position for the round ahead based on current data in our FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 14 article.

Bruno Fernandes v Newcastle

Manchester United have a big tie against Newcastle this week. The Reds are in a great run form recently – winning three of their last league games on the bounce. Newcastle are struggling due to key injuries which could mean potential for opposing attackers.

This article is based on historical data largely. As we can Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m) bagged a return in three of the four matches he played against Newcastle between 2020-2021. Although he gifted teammate Marcus Rashford a penalty in the latest round that is unlikely to happen again.

Raheem Sterling v Brighton

Brighton are one of the few teams yet to keep a single clean sheet this season. That bodes well for Chelsea who sit third amongst all teams in the division for expected goals scored.

Chelsea have a good chance of converting this week and one player who could benefit is someone who has a good record against Brighton. Raheem Sterling (£7m) collected a return in three of the four matches he played against the Seagulls. Interestingly one of his returns was a huge 21-point haul.

Tomas Soucek v Crystal Palace

West Ham face Crystal Palace next up, a team who have lost four of their last five matches. The Hammers are in good scoring form recently – netting at least two goals in each of their last three matches. There is one player in particular who is in form and had a good season against Crystal Palace last season.

In terms of recent form Tomas Soucek (£4.9m) has managed to return in four of his last seven matches. We can also see that last season he collected 17 points against Crystal Palace. His points came from one goal, two assists and three bonus.

Mohamed Salah v Fulham

Liverpool have a good opportunity to extend their top from this week. They come up against Fulham, a team who have been conceding some concerning underlying defensive data this season.

As we can see, last season Mohamed Salah (£13m) performed very well against the Cottagers. In the two matches he played against them he scored two goals and created one assist.

Salah’ good record extends back to 2018-2020 where he also scored in two of the four matches he played against Fulham.
