Should I Free Hit this week?

The Big Blank Gameweek is upon us! Gameweek 29 has arrived and many within the community have been busy trying to get a plan together. How many players should I have for Gameweek 29? Should I Free Hit this week? Should I take hits? We answer those questions here.

The most experienced managers in the game tend to plan for Blank and Double Gameweeks. They can be some of the best times of the season to make gains both in terms of rank and mini-league position. So, lets take a look at how to approach Gameweek 29.

Gameweek 29 Fixtures

We can see that just four fixtures play in Gameweek 29. Those fixtures include Burnley v Brentford, Luton v Nottingham Forest, Fulham v Spurs and West Ham v Aston Villa.

The above also means that quite a lot of teams do not have fixtures and so Blank. Those teams consist of Arsenal, Bournemouth, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle, Sheffield United, Wolves.

As you can see, eight teams feature this week. So, who are the key players? The graphic below reveals the top 10 predicted point scorers, provided by the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area.

We can take a lot from the above. One of the most important things we can take is captaincy. Captaincy will be crucial this week so making sure you have the likes of Son Heung-Min and Ollie Watkins could be important.

Amongst the players above we can also see several players with high ownership or players who experienced managers have been signing recently. This suggests that we already own some of the key assets for the round ahead.

How many players is enough?

There is no magic number on how many players is enough in Gameweek 29. However, recent polls and online chatter suggests that anywhere between 8-10 players is fine. For those that can get to that number without using the Free Hit by taking a -4 or -8 hit then that could be a great move.

The lack of defenders or goalkeepers amongst the players predicted to get the most points this week does suggest we can sacrifice those positions. From that we can also predict that having seven playable attackers should be a priority.

Is there a better time to use the Free Hit?

Gameweek 34 stands out as another good opportunity to use the Free Hit. This is because it is predicted that teams including Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Everton, Manchester United, Newcastle and Sheffield United may have a double Gameweek. We are also likely to see other teams blank or double there too.

We also have to take into account that we may not want players from the teams above long-term. This suggests that either Wildcarding immediately after that week or using the Free Hit during it could be a wise move.

Should I use the Free Hit in Gameweek 29?

For managers who still hold the Wildcard to tackle the period around Gameweek 34 and have less than 7-8 playing players for Gameweek 29, then using the Free Hit could be a great way of attacking the round ahead.

However, for managers who have 8+ players or can get to that total with -4 or -8 hits then it may be better to hold tight and use the Free Hit to tackle Gameweek 34.
