Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 12?
Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 12.
Recent FPL goals
Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:
However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:
- No more than one goal
- At least nine shots
- An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
- An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20

Before we discuss the upcoming redemption story of Mohamed Salah (£12.7m), let’s reflect on the departing names. Neal Maupay (£6.1m), Martin Odegaard (£6.4m) and Joe Willock (£4.9m) all make way because of poor xG numbers, although the Arsenal midfielder did notch an assist on Sunday.
After dropping out of last week’s list because of his own bad short-term xG stats, it’s no surprise to see Salah be the most transferred-in player heading into Gameweek 12. Five league games without a goal ended against Man City, with West Ham (H), Nottingham Forest (a) and Leeds (H) up next.
With several price drops and a mass abandonment from the FPL community, he was a huge differential at the weekend. Don’t expect the same by Tuesday’s deadline.
Elsewhere, Ollie Watkins (£7.2m) has blanked for seven successive games, settling on two points each time. He is trying though, with 11 goal attempts and an xG of 1.55 during his last four outings.
Salah’s team-mate Darwin Nunez (£8.8m) caused frustration to both FPL managers and Liverpool supporters by not squaring the ball to Salah on Sunday, which surely would have secured a 2-0 win. Recent injuries to Luis Diaz (£8.0m) and Diogo Jota (£8.9m) could now guarantee starts for the Uruguayan, making him an appealing differential.
For a one-week punt, Danny Welbeck (£6.5m) has a great fixture at home to Nottingham Forest. Surely this is the night to score his first goal of the season.
Finally, one surprise Newcastle midfielder has been replaced with another in Joelinton (£5.9m). In the 0-0 at Manchester United, his header hit a post, as did the rebound!
