Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 9?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 9.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least 9 shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

Due a goal in Gameweek 9

Three names remain from the five of Gameweek 8. After taunting the many FPL managers who’d given up on him, Nicolas Jackson came off the bench to score for Chelsea at Burnley. With it being his first goal since Gameweek 3, he is still on the list.

As are Richarlison and Eberechi Eze, although the latter has a hamstring injury that will keep him out for a month. Tomas Soucek removed himself from here after scoring in two successive matches, whilst Neal Maupay is restricted to cameo appearances.

Ranked by xG

As mentioned in our look at Liverpool investment, Darwin Nunez is gaining interest amongst the FPL community. Three goals and three assists have arrived in only 334 minutes, although that in itself is the main problem.

The Uruguayan beats Mohamed Salah for big chances (eight) and minutes per chance (19.6) but he may not even start in Gameweek 9, with the usual late South American arrival problem about to combine with a Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Elsewhere, Dominic Solanke is still the forward with most in-box touches (58) but owners will have been disappointed with his blank at Everton. Up next is Wolves and Burnley at home.

There’s also a meeting between two surprise entrants. Brentford’s Christian Norgaard hosts Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni and both have netted once this season. Caution will be needed over the latter, as he was demoted to the bench in Gameweek 8 and didn’t come on.
