Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 3?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 3.

Recent FPL goals

Some players had a great second weekend:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product.

Without the usual four-match sample size of ‘Due a Goal’ articles, here we’ll instead look at the expected goals (xG) stats.

Due a goal in Gameweek 3

With Crystal Palace v Arsenal still to come on Monday, Solly March and Bryan Mbeumo are the two to score twice. They’re also out in front as top scorers, having also netted in Gameweek 1. Incredibly, Mbeumo is actually underachieving so far, with an xG of 3.26.

Brighton winger March has the most shots on target over these two weeks (6) but these other overachievers all scored from their only shot. Gustavo Hamer‘s debut curler had an xG of just 0.02, whilst Hwang Hee-chan‘s consolation header was 0.06.

In east London, Carney Chukwuemeka cancelled out Nayef Aguerd‘s opener but was injured by half-time.

Meanwhile, the pair with the lowest xG delta numbers almost share a surname. Bruno Fernandes owners will feel very unlucky that he’s blanked twice, despite having the league’s highest non-penalty expected goal involvement (NPxGI) of 2.12. Selling him may be rash, considering it’s Nottingham Forest next.

Enzo Fernandez missed a Chelsea penalty and team-mate Nicolas Jackson‘s -1.33 is only worsened by Neal Maupay over these two rounds. Surprisingly, Erling Haaland scored none of his four chances versus Newcastle, whilst Ben Davies‘ scuffed shot turned into a Lisandro Martinez own goal.
