Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 28?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 28.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over the last four Gameweeks:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over these four:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least eight shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

The two names lost from last week’s list are for varying reasons. While relied-upon starter Pascal Gross was given a rare benching, Phil Foden scored twice to overturn Man United’s early derby goal. Having a wonderful season, he’s now on more total points than team-mate Erling Haaland.

Ranked by xG

Meanwhile, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster for Dominic Solanke owners. Bought by many in anticipation of Double Gameweek 28, he was an injury doubt for Sunday’s trip to Burnley, made the starting line-up but proceeded to blank.

Pablo Sarabia made little impact as Newcastle bagged a surprise clean sheet versus Wolves, Danny Welbeck was an unused substitute and Gabriel Martinelli plays tonight.

Of the new names, Beto doesn’t start often. He did here, registering 1.40 xG thanks to four shots on target and three big chances. A first-half penalty was missed but he made amends by later scoring for Everton.

Looking ahead to Blank Gameweek 29, both Ivan Toney and Anthony Elanga will be featuring. The former will be a popular pick despite following up five attacking returns from five with three successive blanks. Nottingham Forest’s Elanga continues to look lively and could be a superb differential that week.
