Underachievers GW36: Which players are due an FPL goal?

Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due an FPL goal.

Recent FPL goals

Some forwards are in great form over their last four matches:

6 GOALS – Gabriel Jesus, Cristiano Ronaldo

5 GOALS – Son Heung-min

3 GOALS – Bruno Guimaraes, Leandro Trossard

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product.

So let’s look at the players who have recorded at least nine shots, an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00 and an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20 over their last four matches, yet no more than one goal.

Due an FPL goal

Gone are the early days of this article where only a few players appear below. It just gets bigger by the week, suggesting a general underachievement throughout the league.

Last Tuesday’s selection was headlined by the inclusion of defender Marcos Alonso and – although it was intended to help with the following Gameweek – the Spaniard actually scored two days later to complete Double Gameweek 34. Such is his attacking threat from wing-back, Alonso still features in this week’s list.

The only other name to score from last week’s lot was Ollie Watkins. His Aston Villa team mate Danny Ings still features, coming off the bench to score, assist and register an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 0.77.

As he was unable to face Watford due to injury, the numbers remain the same for Maxwel Cornet. He leads the list for expected goals (xG) and xGI, with Burnley team mates Jay Rodriguez and Wout Weghorst included too.

Meanwhile, two players are provided from Brentford, Brighton and Liverpool, with Bryan Mbeumo leading the way for goal attempts and shots inside the box. The most shots on target come from Danny Welbeck, hitting recent form via a goal and two assists.

Six of these players have an imminent Double Gameweek 36 and it’s a huge surprise to see Watford’s Juraj Kucka appear. One assist has arrived in his last four games despite not creating a chance – instead, he’s taken 13 shots.

Meanwhile, this data can be used in tandem with our look at how players usually fare against their next opponent. The three teams with successive Double Gameweeks rank highly when assessing the final fixtures.
