Wednesday 6th July: gossip and rumours
The Telegraph and The Athletic: Everton hunt Richarlison replacement
The Telegraph and The Athletic are reporting that Everton are interested in signing Armando Broja, as a replacement for Richarlison. The Merseyside club have reportedly required about Borja’s availability.
FPL Comment: Broja had a mix season on loan at Southampton in 2021/22. In spells he was an excellent FPL asset. A move to a team like Everton where he would be more sure of minutes would make him far more attractive to FPL managers than he is at Chelsea due to perceived lack of minutes in London.
David Ornstein: Chelsea to move for Ronaldo?
David Ornstein is reporting that Chelsea are thinking about making an offer for Ronaldo. Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy at United’s lack of ambition.
FPL comment: Chelsea will need to sign a replacement for Lukaku if he does leave the club this summer. Ronaldo is a proven goal scorer and Chelsea’s Champions League football will appeal. At Manchester United FPL managers are unluckily to invest in the forward, however if he moves to Chelsea his appeal would strengthen.
Tuesday 5th July: gossip and rumours
ESPN, AS and the Independent: Ronaldo to Chelsea or Barcelona?
ESPN are reporting that Ronaldo could be willing to join Chelsea this summer as he looks for a one away from Manchester. However they report that Chelsea have no made an offer for the forward and have not decided if they are going too.
AS are suggesting that Barcelona are also considering trying to get Ronaldo to make a return to La Liga. With the Independent reporting that Ronaldo would take a big pay cut to join the Spanish giants.
FPL Comment: Chelsea are missing a forward option for the new season with Lukuku linked with a move away from the club. However, FPL managers should be cautious if Ronaldo doesn’t leave the league before Gameweek 1. Managers could get forced into a transfer to deal with a player who has left the league.
Fabrizio Romano: Spurs close to loan deal
Romano reports that Spurs are close to agreeing a loan deal for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet.
FPL comment: Spurs continue to strengthen their defensive line after the addition of Perisic earlier on this summer. This will improve the likelihood of clean sheets, although also potentially mean more rotation especially around the Champions League.
Monday 4th July: gossip and rumours
Fabrizio Romano: Man United secure Malacia deal
Back on the 28th of June Romano reported that Man United had attempted to hijack a deal for Tyrell Malacia. Today he reports that this is one of three deals which will finally be made official.
FPL comment: Malacia is a pacy wing back with great acceleration which will be well suited to the Premier League. At just five foot six he is a lot smaller than the rest of the Man United defence and there are concerns that he might not be strong enough in the physically Premier League game. He is a great crosser of the ball though and his stats for set pieces are better than Luke Shaw who also plays in that position.
Thursday 30th June: gossip and rumours
90min and Football365: Torino defender Bremer desired in London
90min and Football365 are reporting that Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in signing Gleison Bremer. Central defender Bremer currently plays for Torino. They suggest that Torino want £43m for the Brazilian. Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea are all looking to strengthen their defences ahead of the new season. However, they all have other options if Bremer moves elsewhere.
FPL Comment: Bremer recorded three goals and one assist in 33 Serie A games last season. The defender was named the best defender in Serie A last season and therefore would be an excellent FPL option for managers at all of these Premier League clubs.
The Athletic: New forward for Brentford
The Athletic are reporting that Brentford have offered £20m for Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter. That would make Lewis-Potter Brentford’s club-record signing, Brentford tried to sign the forward last summer and again in January, so will be hoping to close the deal this window.
FPL Comment: Keane Lewis-Potter scored 13 goals in all competitions for Hull last season. He was called up for the England Under 21s. At Brentford he could offer a great budget forward option for FPL managers.
