FPL so far: The top-scoring defenders

Now that we’ve completed the opening four FPL Gameweeks of 2023/24, here are the top-scoring defenders so far.

Heading into the international break, we can see from the Premier League table that champions Man City have continued from where they left off. The only side with four wins from four, they’re two points ahead of Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, promoted trio Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United already form three of the bottom four.

From an FPL perspective, it’s time to assess the stand-out assets using Fantasy Football Scout’s Members Area data.

THE TOP FPL DEFENDERS

Points

Spurs centre-back Cristian Romero has delivered in all four outings with scores of seven, six, seven and seven. He’s netted twice, as has Matty Cash, with 64%-owned Pervis Estupinan alongside the Aston Villa man on 21 points.

Two Chelsea defenders appear amongst the best but neither are Ben Chilwell.

Expected goal involvement (xGI)

Seemingly used as a right midfielder by Unai Emery, the attacking instincts of Cash have yielded the most shots (nine) and big chances (three) of all FPL defenders.

Nottingham Forest’s Willy Boly is second-best for shots on target (four), scoring at Old Trafford in Gameweek 2.

Far ahead of the rest when it comes to penalty area touches are Estupinan and Chilwell, with the Brighton left-back also first for chances created (12) and big chances created (three).

Individual hauls

No surprise to see Cash’s brace at Burnley be the biggest haul so far. Those 17 points are three ahead of the next best, brought in by Raphael Varane and Chelsea’s super-cheap Malo Gusto.

He collected two assists in Gameweek 3, just like Serge Aurier did the week beforehand. Estupinan bagged a goal and assist at Wolves.
