FPL gossip 15th February: Watkins could be dropped, plus Martinelli set for forward role
A look at the latest rumours and bits of gossip that are getting the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community talking.
FPL gossip: Could Watkins be dropped for the Watford match?
Birmingham Live believes that Ollie Watkins could be one of several players dropped by a furious Steven Gerrard. Following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle the local newspaper see’s changes ahead.
The newspaper suggests that Matty Cash, John McGinn and Douglas Luiz could also be dropped. This would be a nightmare for FPL managers who have stuck with Watkins through his lean patch. Even without a goal in five league games, managers would have hoped to see a return against Watford.
Is Martinelli lined up for striker role?
Football.London says that Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli has been playing as a striker in recent training sessions. With Martinelli suspended for the first half of Double Gameweek 26 he will be off radar for FPL managers. However, after his suspension he could be an even better option.
Priced at just £5.3m, he has started Arsenal’s last nine league games and scored three goals. If he returns as an out-of-position option, his ownership quickly grow.
Long spell out for Trippier
Trippier has made a fantastic return to the Premier League since his arrival in Newcastle. He has returned two free kick goals in the past week. However he is now expected to be out for six weeks with a broken bone in his left foot. This could be a huge issue for Newcastle who have been much better since the arrival of the ex-Tottenham player.
