FPL expert second draft

The Official Fantasy Premier League game is edging closer to its start so we bring in one of our top managers and look at an FPL expert second draft. @FPLReaction has produced his second draft ahead of the new season and so he talks us through his thoughts upon selecting his squad.

Looking at an FPL expert second draft can be hugely beneficial to managers. Knowing how other fantasy managers think and how they select their players can be really helpful when selecting our own teams. So lets dive in.

@FPLReaction’ second draft

Draft thoughts

We are really close to the start of the season now and I think my draft is getting closer to completion. I have not made many changes but I am still debating several things from players to formation.

Goalkeepers

  • Andre Onana (£5m) – Manchester United kept the most clean sheets last season so it makes sense to get defensive coverage. Onana is one of the cheapest ways into the backline but his incredible passing and shot stopping can also help towards bonus. Unless a convincing £4.5m option comes to the fray then Onana could well stay.
  • Alphonse Areola (£4m) – I am unsure whether Areola will challenge for the number one spot but I’m not sure it matters as Onana will unlikely miss any games. He will probably stay on the bench unless another £4m goalkeeper becomes more attractive as an option before the start of the season.

Defenders

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8m) -Many within the community have come off Trent but I’m not convinced. He’s just so creative and I think he can create goals wherever he plays on the pitch. It is also a huge bonus that he has potential clean sheets as well.
  • Gabriel (£5m) – Arsenal’ fixtures are too hard to ignore and so is Gabriel’ £5m price-tag. The Brazilian ranked joint third for shots on goal amongst defenders last season and I can’t see him leaving my team.
  • Pervis Estupinan (£5m) – Brighton are a team I feel like I need to invest in defensively and Estupinan is their most dangerous defender in terms of expected goal involvement. He is another player I can’t see leaving my team.
  • George Baldock (£4m) and Jordan Beyer (£4m) – Both play for newly promoted sides, will be guaranteed minutes and come in at £4m. One of them could change and it is most likely to be the latter for another £4m defender.

Midfielders

  • Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) – Brighton had more shots on target than any other team last season so I feel inclined to add their standout attacker. They also have great starting fixtures so Mitoma could have huge potential early on.
  • Marcus Rashford (£9m) – Although I’m not completely convinced by the Manchester United attack, Rashford was excellent last campaign and ranked amongst the top four players in the game for attempts on goal.
  • Bryan Mbeumo (£6.5m) – Brentford also have great fixtures and with their cheap assets it makes sense to invest. Their standout option is Mbeumo who will also likely take their penalties.
  • Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) – Saka is pretty much guaranteed to make my Gameweek 1 team. His side have amazing fixtures, he takes penalties and was also a brilliant FPL asset last season.
  • Phil Foden (£7.5m) – Foden is one of the players I’m unsure of going into the new season. His minutes are a concern but has huge potential if he does start. Foden has the power to change my entire formation if I choose to replace him.

Forwards

  • Erling Haaland (£14m) – This is a player who does not need much explanation. He plays for the best side in the league, takes penalties and is the standout captaincy option for most weeks.
  • Gabriel Jesus (£8m) – Doubling up on the impressive Arsenal attack could be one of the easiest decisions I have made. Jesus created a very good amount of non-penalty expected goal involvement last campaign and is also the focal point to the Arsenal offensive line.
  • Cameron Archer (£4.5m) – Unless I change formation or another £4.5m striker comes into the picture then he is likely to stay on my bench un-used until I wildcard or sway towards a 3-4-3 formation.
