FPL Best Captain for Gameweek 11

We take a look at some of the top candidates and pick out the FPL best captain for Gameweek 11. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can access its underlying stats and fixture ticker to come to a conclusion.

The player you select as your captain will earn you double points in any given round. Captaincy is one of the biggest contributors to your overall score and rank. Because of this, finding out the FPL best captain for Gameweek 11 could be key.

Gameweek 11 fixtures

Below we can see the fixture ticker – it has ordered the matches in difficulty order. According to the ticker the teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.

The fixture ticker can be very useful when trying to pick out a captain but other factors should also be considered.

The options – Mohamed Salah

Liverpool seem to be gaining some momentum as of late as they sit fourth in the league and just three points off top spot. The Reds have won their last four matches on the bounce – scoring between two and five in each of them. In terms of offensive stats they’re impressing. Amongst all teams they sit joint second for goals scored (23), second best for total attempts on goal (176) and first for expected goals scored (22.35).

Up next is Luton for Liverpool. The Hatters sit 18th in the table after a rough start to life in the top tier. In terms of recent form they’ve lost three of their last five and failed to pick up a single win or clean sheet. In terms of defensive data they rank third worst for expected goals conceded (20.10), joint third worst for shots in the box conceded (114) and second worst for big chances conceded (33).

Liverpool’ standout player is Mohamed Salah (£12.8m). The Egyptian currently sits as the highest scoring player in the game with a huge 83 points. When compared to all attackers statistically Salah sits third best for non-penalty expected goal involvement (7.23), third best for total attempts on goal (33), joint fifth for shots in the box (24) and joint fourth for big chances total (10).

Erling Haaland

Manchester City have also started the season well. The league holders sit in third place and just two points behind leaders Tottenham. Manchester City have lost just one of their last five games but won their last three on the bounce. In terms of their data they sit joint third for goals scored (22), third best for expected goals scored (20.00), third best for total attempts (162) and the best for shots on target (66).

Bournemouth lay ahead for Manchester City next. The Cherries have been extremely poor as of late which has seen them sink to 17th in the league. Defensively, things have been rough as they rank second worst for expected goals conceded (21.93), second worst for shots in the box conceded (122) and third worst for big chances conceded (33).

Erling Haaland (£14m) appears to have found his rhythm again after a mini slump – scoring five goals and creating one assist in his last three matches. The Norwegian is also maintaining some fantastic attacking data. When compared to all attackers Haaland sits first for goals (11), first for total attempts on goal (39), first for shots in the box (37) and first for big chances total (19).

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 11?

Both are excellent options going into the new round. However, there are one or two factors which separate them. Firstly, although both have been maintaining great attacking data Haaland’ is the best in the league for most of the key data points.

Another factor backing Haaland over Salah this week is that the Egyptian started in his sides cup match in midweek. This raises question marks over how many minutes he will play, his fitness and if he will even start the game.

Finally, Haaland plays at home this week, a place where his side have been considerably better over the years. In comparison, Liverpool play away from home against a Luton side who are maintaining good expected goals conceded data.

Going for a differential?

For managers looking to go different with the captaincy this week, take a look at some of the options below:

  • Ollie Watkins (£8.4m) – Aston Villa have been fantastic this season. Offensively they also rank joint first for goals scored with 26. The biggest reason for that is this man. Watkins sits as the fourth highest scoring player in the game. In terms of data he ranks fourth best for non-penalty expected goal involvement (6.32). Watkins also faces Nottingham Forest next who have failed to win any of their last six matches.
  • Bryan Mbeumo (£6.7m) – Brentford face West Ham next. Although tough on paper the Hammers rank amongst the worst six teams for shots conceded, shots in the box conceded and big chances conceded. With that in mind Mbeumo could be a great option. He’s been wonderful this campaign and in fact, no midfielder in the game has a better non-penalty expected goal involvement so far than him.
