FPL Best Captain for Gameweek 10

We take a look at some of the top candidates and pick out the FPL best captain for Gameweek 10. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can access its underlying stats and fixture ticker to come to a conclusion.

The player you select as your captain will earn you double points in any given round. Captaincy is one of the biggest contributors to your overall score and rank. Because of this, finding out the FPL best captain for Gameweek 10 could be key.

Gameweek 10 fixtures

Below we can see the fixture ticker – it has ordered the matches in difficulty order. According to the ticker the teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.

The fixture ticker can be very useful when trying to pick out a captain but other factors should also be considered.

The options – Bukayo Saka

Arsenal continue to perform well and sit level on points with Manchester City (21). In terms of offensive data this season they rank seventh for expected goals (16.9), sixth for actual goals scored (18), fifth for shots on target (47) and mid-table for other attacking data points.

Sheffield United are up next for Arsenal. The newly promoted side have picked up just one point in their first nine matches after a catastrophic start to life back in top tier. Defensively, they also sit the second worst for expected goals conceded (20.96), the worst for actual goals conceded (24), the worst for total attempts conceded (190), the worst for big chances conceded (24) and the worst for shots on target conceded (71).

Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) has started his season exceptionally well. He sits as the joint sixth highest scoring player in the game so far (58 points). In the eight games he’s played Saka has picked up at least one return in seven of them. In terms of data he ranks seventh amongst all players for non-penalty expected goal involvement (5.12). He also takes his sides penalties which is another factor to consider.

Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa have also started their campaign well. They reside in fifth place after winning six, drawing one and losing two matches. In terms of data Aston Villa also sit third best for expected goals scored (17.53), second best for actual goals scored (23), third best for shots in the box (100) and in the top six teams for other key data points.

Luton lay ahead for Aston Villa. Whilst not having as bad of a start to the season than fellow promoted side Sheffield United, they have still been poor. When compared to all teams Luton rank fifth worst for expected goals conceded (17.81), fifth worst for actual goals conceded (17), third worst for big chances conceded (31), and in the worst six teams for other statistics.

One of the biggest reasons for the Aston Villa form is striker Ollie Watkins (£8.3m). Watkins currently sits as the second highest scoring player in the game (70 points). In the nine matches he’s played so far he’s banked a return in all but one. When it comes to the data he ranks eighth for non-penalty expected goal involvement (5.06), fourth best for attempts on goal (29), second second best for shots in the box (28) and joint third best for big chances total (nine).

Erling Haaland

The league leaders have also had a great start to the new campaign. Manchester City reside joint second with Arsenal on 21 points but edging them on goal difference. When compared to all teams they rank ninth for expected goals (16), fifth for goals scored (19) and amongst the top four for other key data points.

Manchester City come up against local rivals Manchester United next. Defensively things haven’t been great for the Reds but they rank around mid-table for expected goals conceded (13.65), mid-table for goals conceded (13) and mid-table for other defensive statistics.

Erling Haaland (£14m) hasn’t been able to maintain his 22/23 campaign form but he’s still the fourth highest scoring player in FPL currently with 63 points. His data is very good though. Amongst all players he resides the best for non-penalty expected goal involvement (7.06), first for total attempts on goal (34), first for shots in the box (33) and first for big chances total (15).

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool continue their drive to the top of the table as the Reds stand fourth in the league. Offensively Liverpool are maintaining some great data. They rank second best for expected goals scored (19.15), joint fourth best for goals scored (20), second best for total attempts on goal (155), third best for big chances total (29) and fourth best for shots in the box (99).

They face an interesting fixture against Nottingham Forest next up. When comparing defensive stats they sit around mid-table for expected goals conceded (12.54), mid-table for goals conceded (12) and mid-table for other key defensive statistics.

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) is the highest scoring player in FPL so far with 75 points. The Egyptian has also blanked in just one of his nine matches. In terms of underlying data Salah ranks third best for non-penalty expected goal involvement (6.29), third best for total attempts (30) and joint third best for big chances (nine).

Who is the FPL best captain for Gameweek 10?

Although both Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah are maintaining some fantastic data and consistency both face a team maintaining average defensive data. This could suggest that their potential may not be as big as other options.

Ollie Watkins is also a very good option against a weak defence. The issue with Watkins is that he is over performing on his expected goal involvement data which suggests it is not sustainable. Another factor is that he does not take his sides penalties either when the other options do.

The best captain for Gamweek 10 could be Bukayo Saka. Not only is he sustaining good attacking data, has shown huge consistency so far and plays for a very strong side but he also faces the worst defence in the entire league and we can see that with their underlying defensive data. It also bodes well for him that he gets an additional point for a clean sheet and for each goal scored in comparison to the forward options.
