Fantasy EFL Top Picks for Gameweek 17

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the Fantasy EFL top picks for Gameweek 17. We bring in our expert and regular Fantasy EFL contributor @FPLEdgeworth to reveal two of his best players in each position ahead of the new round.

Our Fantasy EFL Fantasy top picks for Gameweek 17 can be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. Knowing who the best players to own in each position and top two teams to target are could help you beat your mini-league rivals and secure a good rank.

Goalkeepers – Matt Macey – Colchester United

The first player in my top picks this week is one that wouldn’t be in if not for having a double gameweek. Although, previous stats don’t look ideal, there aren’t many teams who seem promising when it comes to keep clean sheet potential this week. So with two games against Fleetwood and Swindon, Macey has two opportunities to keep a clean sheet.

Owen Goodman – AFC Wimbledon

Goodman also makes the cut. After several disappointing weeks, it appears as if he has bounced back. His latest match saw him keep an away clean sheet. This week he faces Newport at home, who have scored in just two of their last seven games. Goodman has a great opportunity to make it back-to-back clean sheets.

Defenders – Anthony O’Connor – Harrogate Town

A player that many call the ‘Clearance King’ is next, O’Connor has produced a huge 176 clearances in 17 games, 47 clearances ahead of second place in EFL Fantasy. This week Harrogate play Salford, a team with the third worst attack in the league based on goals scored, so O’Connor goes into the game with multiple routes to points.

Mickey Demetriou – Crewe Alexandra

The second-highest scoring defender in the game is up next. Demetriou, who also ranks third for total clearances in the game with 126, will has a chance of adding a clean sheet to any clearances he picks up this week. Carlisle, his upcoming opposition, have the second worst attack in the division, which is a great opportunity for Crewe and Demetriou to keep another clean sheet.

Midfielders – Finn Azaz – Middlesbrough

At the current time of writing, before he plays Blackburn, Azaz has produced three double-digit hauls in his last three games, combining for a total of 51 points. In addition, Middlesbrough are in relentless scoring form – racking up 15 goals during the same period. Azaz feels like a no-brainer, especially when considering he plays against a side who sit third bottom of the division in Hull City.

Dean Campbell – Barrow

A top pick, but who could also be seen as a differential, Campbell sits with just 0.3% ownership. With six or more points in 10 of his last 11 games via interceptions alone, he has consistently delivered. Bradford away from home this week could be testing, but it’s a game that could see him add to his impressive tally.

Forwards – Borja Sainz – Norwich City

Sainz heads into the new round off the back of scoring a hattrick in his previous game. Managing a cool six goals and two assists in his last four games at home, Sainz will be looking to add to that against Luton. His form is undeniable, so back against him at your peril.

Emmanuel Latte Lath – Middlesbrough

Another striker with huge potential this week is Latte Lath. As previously mentioned, Middlesbrough have scored 15 goals in their last three games, and Latte Lath contributed with a huge five goals and two assists. Monitoring the line-ups to make sure he starts will be key.

Teams to Target

  • Colchester United – A theme in the last couple of Gameweeks is when there are only two teams doubling, you pick both, as it guarantees points, and that theme continues this week. Colchester play Fleetwood and Swindon, and it’s their game against the latter they go into as favourites. Any points picked up against Fleetwood would be a bonus.
  • Fleetwood Town – Fleetwood also double this week, with matches against Swindon and Doncaster. Similarly to Swindon, they should be favourites in the first game, so if they win that, any points they get in the game they aren’t the favourites in are a bonus.
