Community Team Reveal Gameweek 11 – Marc Jobling

Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.

Ahead of Gameweek 11, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what he is doing to his team.

Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. So how did Gameweek 10 go?

Successfully, in that there was no giant drop, just a slight movement from 86k to 87k. Being fearful of Gabriel Jesus (5), Harry Kane (7) and Kevin De Bruyne (6) reflects what I’m like as an FPL manager – safe, logical and pessimistic.

The autosub of Andreas Pereira (6) for Aleksandar Mitrovic went well though, as I finished on 70 points. In particular, I was happy to have Joao Cancelo (18), Kieran Trippier (7) and Gabriel Martinelli (12).

What does your defence look like?

Having two free transfers brings a lot of potential but the problem with Reece James’ injury is that I can’t find an appealing replacement. It’s a far cry from the early season big-at-the-back teams, as I’m struggling to discover anybody else that I want.

I like having Vicente Guaita in goal, whilst Cancelo and Trippier pick themselves. An Arsenal defender would be nice by Gameweek 13 but there’s no point buying one now when they blank in midweek.

However, even Neco Williams can’t be relied upon for a start, as he was demoted to the bench in Gameweek 10. Kyle Walker-Peters was an idea I had when using the Wildcard – he’s only needed to face West Ham (H) and Bournemouth (a). It’ll probably go down as a mistake.

Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?

Although I do really want the likes of Kane, Jesus and Phil Foden, you can’t have them all and I’m pretty pleased with the names that are currently in place.

James Maddison, Wilfried Zaha, Erling Haaland and Martinelli are great assets, with Ivan Toney solid. The two issues right now regard Mitrovic and Mohamed Salah.

For the former, it’s straightforward – if he’s declared fit to play, he stays. It’s more complicated for the Liverpool man, as his six-minute Champions League hat-trick was a devastating reminder that he could be an incredible differential. However, is that enough?

I like the theory that he’s a better FPL option without having the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold to track back and help. And his fixtures are great from Gameweek 12. But that premium spot could become Kane, with a plethora of interesting midfield downgrades on the radar.

So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 11 and beyond?

The image provided is what my team currently looks like pre-transfers. Updates on James and Mitrovic will play a huge role in deciding which route to take, as is the back-and-forth on whether to go with Salah or Kane.

Option one brings in Kane and Leandro Trossard. Option two gets Son Heung-min for Spurs coverage whilst using the other transfer to replace James. Then option three is simply to ignore Antonio Conte’s attackers and move James to either Eric Dier or Virgil van Dijk.

Finally, what about captaincy?

That’ll be Haaland, regardless. Even if I buy a Spurs attacker for their nicer fixture against Everton, he’s still Haaland and I’m still scared to opt against him.

Good luck and thank you for the team reveal!
