Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 12 Expert Picks and Team Reveal

Last modified date

With a new round ahead, we take a look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 12 expert picks and team reveal. @FPLGunnersaurus joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 12 expert picks and team reveal can help hugely for the round ahead.

Top Picks – Defenders – Robin Gosens (11.3m / 5% TSB / FCU)

The era of Urs Fischer is officially over. Despite his heroic spell in charge the results this season could not justify keeping him in the hotseat. Interim Head Coach Marco Grote takes over and will be looking to secure Union Berlin’s first win since MD2 and break their nine game losing streak in the league.

If you’re looking to target that new manager bounce a Union player when they host Augsburg on MD12 may just be the tonic. We all know the ability Gosens has to surge forward and provide attacking returns, as evidenced on MD2 when in his full debut he scored twice in a huge 24 points haul.

Alejandro Grimaldo (12.8m / 66% TSB / B04)

If you’re one of the 34% of managers who still don’t own Grimaldo you’re either inactive of extremely brave. Only Harry Kane sits above the Spaniard in the Bundesliga Fantasy scoring charts such is his outstanding form this season. That form earned him his first call-up for Spain during the international break and he made his full debut for them for Cyprus.

Leverkusen face an away trip to Werder Bremen on MD12. This bodes well for Grimaldo owners. He tops the fantasy scoring charts when playing away averaging 18.6ppg, almost 5ppg more than second place Guirassy. Grimaldo should easily be your default go-to star defender this matchday.

Julian Ryerson (9.9m / 8% TSB / BVB)

With the exception of the popular defensive picks who are fixture proof, MD12 is not a good matchday for fantasy assets in the defensive department. That said, Dortmund’s Ryerson could provide good value for money at 9.9m. Dortmund may be on a three game winless run. However, a home game versus Borussia Mönchengladbach presents an opportunity to change that.

Perhaps surprisingly Gladbach have the second best expected goals away at 1.69xG. Because of this the Ryerson pick is for potential attacking returns only. With two goals and one assist so far we know Ryerson can get forward. Also, playing in a fluid Dortmund side may add more attacking returns to that tally this matchday.

Midfielders – Julian Brandt (17m / 30% TSB / BVB)

Brandt’s stock has fallen lately as represented by his drop down in ownership to 30%. Brandt has only picked up eight points in Bundesliga Fantasy in his last three games which. This also ties in to Dortmund poor form having lost twice and drawn once. That said it’s time to hit the reset button following the international break and Brandt will be looking to get back to his early season form.

In his first eight games Brandt recorded six double-digit fantasy returns, including a best of 19 points at home to Bremen. Dortmund host a Borussia Mönchengladbach side who concede a lot on their travels and will be looking to capitalise on their leaky defence. If there’s a game for Brandt to remind fantasy managers why on occasions he’s a must own then this is it.

Jan-Niklas Beste (9.1m / 21% TSB / HDH)

Pardon the pun for the second time this season but Beste is simply the best mid-priced midfield asset out there. This is especially true at home where the German averages a huge 17ppg, the best for any midfielder on home turf this season.

In his five home games this season Beste has racked up 85 points of his 110 points total, registering double-digit returns in every one of those games. His stats at home are so good he should seriously be in contention for your star midfielder role this matchday. Heidenheim host Bochum on MD12 who have conceded three quarters of their total goals away from home. Beste is 100% an essential must-own pick this matchday.

Florian Wirtz (15.1m ON-SALE / 56% TSB / B04)

Before I get to Wirtz I want to mention that on MD12 there are a plethora of great midfield assets available. This could be a matchday where dropping someone like Wirtz’s teammate Hofmann is a viable option given the fixtures of players such as Brandt, Grifo, Beste, Musiala (if fit) and others. That said Wirtz, especially on-sale for those who don’t own him yet, is a complete no brainer.

The German wonderkid is having a wonderful season and I personally can’t see how I ever drop him now, such is his consistency. Averaging 20ppg in his last three games is all that needs to be said in terms of his sparkling form. Expect his sensational season to continue on Saturday afternoon away at Werder Bremen.

Forwards – Serhou Guirassy (14.3m / 13% TSB / VFB)

The Guinean goal machine is back! After missing two matchdays due to injury Guirassy came off the bench on MD11 to net Stuttgart’s winning goal against Borussia Dortmund. Thrust into international duty over the past weeks too Guirassy will be back to full fitness and will be looking to put pressure on Harry Kane at the top of the Bundesliga goal scoring charts.

Guirassy thrives away from home picking up an average of 13.8ppg on the road, only sitting behind Grimaldo for points per game on his travels. On MD12 Stuttgart travel to Frankfurt who won’t be an easy team to break down. Frankfurt have kept a clean sheet in three of their five home games so far but with Guirassy back it could be Stuttgart flying instead of The Eagles.

Omar Marmoush (10.4m ON-SALE / 5% TSB / SGE)

For a second matchday running, and despite facing Guirassy’s Stuttgart, Marmoush should be in consideration for your forward line. The Egyptian is on sale at 10.4m, down from 11.6m. On MD11 Marmoush returned a double-digit fantasy haul for the fourth matchday running. He may not have scored but he did pick up an assist in their away draw at Bremen.

Die Adler are unbeaten at home this season and if Stuttgart have any chink in their armour it’s away from home, having lost twice. If you’re brave enough to bet against the likes of Boniface and Guirassy as your third striker (with Kane and Sané likely filling the other slots), pick up a chunk of change with an on-sale Marmoush.

Niclas Füllkrug (14.6m / 2% TSB / BVB)

This pick is all about Dortmund’s opposition this matchday. Die Schwarzgelben host Borussia Mönchengladbach who away from home have conceded 14 goals in five games. Gladbach sit top for overall xGA and are second worst away from home with a 2.01xGA. This makes Dortmund’s attacking assets tantalising propositions for MD12.

Füllkrug hasn’t hit the heights of his breakout season last campaig. However, he still finds himself in good form, scoring in three of his last four games for club and country. Dortmund will be looking to bounce back from back-to-back Bundesliga losses and the German international striker will be spearheading that charge on Saturday afternoon.
