Best pre-season players for FPL

The start of the Premier League season is under a week away. With this in mind we take a look at the friendlies played in the build up to the new campaign and determine the best pre-season players for FPL in terms of both goals and assists.

Catching up with the best pre-season players for FPL can be really insightful as we prepare our squads for Gameweek 1. Pre-season form can be a big indicator of how they could start the season which can then help towards building your first drafts.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have had a mixed pre-season – winning two, losing one and drawing one. Although mixed, the Reds have been firing on all cylinders up front – racking up 15 goals and scoring four goals in three of their four matches played.

One player who has been heavily involved in the Liverpool goals is Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). The Egyptian may have only found the net once but he also registered a huge six assists which reflects his overall potential.

Jarrod Bowen

West Ham are another side who have had a mixed pre-season – in the six friendlies they played they won three, lost two and drew one. Amongst those games ‘The Hammers’ racked up a solid 16 goals, averaging 2.6 goals scored per game.

Another midfielder in fantastic form in the run up to the start of the season is Jarrod Bowen (£7m). The Englishman managed an impressive three goals and three assists and has also been playing in a more central role which could add to his appeal.

Elliot Anderson

Newcastle have had a very positive pre-season campaign – winning four of their six matches, drawing two and remaining unbeaten. In those same six matches Newcastle racked up 13 goals, scoring at least two in five of their games.

One player who has surprised many during pre-season is Elliot Anderson (£4.5m). The budget midfielder picked up three goals and three assists. There are question marks over his expected minutes going forward but if he can solidify gametime he could be the best £4.5m midfielder in the game this season.

Other big performances

  • Liverpool midfielder Diogo Jota (£8m) – The Liverpool attacker bagged three goals and three assists during pre-season and could well start the season for the Reds.
  • Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze (£6.5m) – Eze has also massively impressed during the summer. He banked two goals and four assists in pre-season at the time of writing.
  • Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez (£7.5m) – Liverpool scored plenty of goals in pre-season and Nunez was heavily involved – collecting four goals and one assist.
  • Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson (£7m) – Chelsea performed better than many expected during the summer. One of their star players was Jackson who managed two goals and three assists.
  • Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) – Arsenal continued to impress after last season. One of their standout players was Saka who scored two goals and registered two assists.
