Best budget players for Gameweek 5

We pick out the best budget players for Gameweek 5. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker and underlying stats we provide some of the best cheap players, whether that be goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders or forwards for the round ahead.

Finding some of the best budget players for Gameweek 5 can be extremely useful to FPL managers. Cheap players are vital when it comes to trying to fit in the more expensive options and can even be great standalone assets.

Fixtures

Below we can see the ticker in order of fixture difficulty. The teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.

Luton

Luton have been poor this season but they have a great opportunity to turn their fortune around this week. They face Fulham in Gameweek 5. The Cottagers have been maintaining some poor underlying data this season. Offensively they rank second worst for attempts on goal (33), second worst for shots in the box (21) and third worst for shots on target (11).

Fulham have also been conceding some poor defensive data. Amongst all teams in the league they rank third worst for shots in the box conceded (52), the worst for shots on target conceded (32) and the worst for big chances conceded (17).

Fulham are a team to target both from a defensive and offensive point of view. One way to do this could be striker Carlton Morris (£5.5m). Morris is the focal point to the Luton attack and takes their penalties so has another route to points.

For those looking for cheap assets in defence it could be a good idea to invest in Ryan Giles (£4.5m). Amongst all defenders in the division he ranks first for crosses (32) and joint second best for successful crosses (10).

Chelsea

Chelsea have not started the new season as well as they would have hoped under their new manager. However, it may be just a matter of time before they click and their underlying data supports that. Defensively they rank third best for expected goals conceded (4.27), second best for shots in the box conceded (26) and third best for total attempts on goal conceded (43).

The Blues have also been maintaining some solid attacking data. They sit first for crosses (114), second best for passes in the final third (585), second best for successful passing (2475) and joint second best for big chances total (14). With the above in mind it could be worth investing in both attack and defence.

Chelsea have plenty of cheap options in defence. One of them is of course goalkeeper Robert Sanchez (£4.5m) but another great option is right-back Malo Gusto (£4.2m). He managed a huge 14-point haul in Gameweek 3 and should start this week as manager Pochettino will want to slowly introduce Reece James in after his injury.

In terms of attack Chelsea have several good picks but one in particular could be due a big return. Central midfielder Enzo Fernandez (£5m) has been advancing into some dangerous positions. The World Cup winner also takes the Chelsea set pieces and even took their last penalty so could have multiple routes to points. He also ranks joint second best amongst all players in the league for big chances created (three).

Chelsea have a great opportunity next up against Bournemouth who have been producing some of the worst defensive and offensive data in the league.

Nottingham Forest

Another side going under the radar is Nottingham Forest. The schedule has not been kind to them so far but they fought in every single match they have played so far. In the first four games Nottingham Forest beat both Chelsea and Sheffield United and came close to securing draws against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest face Burnley in Gameweek 5. The newly promoted side have been very poor – losing against Manchester City, Tottenham and Aston Villa whilst also conceding 11 goals in the same matches. They are also conceding some of the worst defensive and offensive data in the league.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner (£4m) could be an easy way into the Nottingham Forest backline this week and has a good chance of keeping a clean sheet. In attack new signing Anthony Elanga (£5m) could be a great option. The former Manchester United man struck off the bench against Chelsea in Gameweek 4 and could be set to start.
