Notes

  • I’m really happy with how Gameweek 1 went for me. Most of the attackers delivered and they are still good picks for Gameweek 2.
  • My defence was a bit disappointing but predicting clean sheets can always be a bit difficult in such a competitive tournament.
  • I’m still happy with most of my picks and I don’t think the team needs a massive overhaul.
  • I’m not even considering wildcarding and I might not even wildcard before round 3.
  • A bunch of big teams dropped points already and we might see a lot less rotation in GW3. So, the wildcard might not be needed after all and can be used later.
  • I’ll obviously see how Gameweek 2 goes before committing to my strategy. The same goes for my transfers. It’s difficult to commit to them before Morocco play (they have not at the time of writing) as this is the team I’ll try to target. They have one of the easier fixtures in GW2 and I might even be looking at captaining someone like En-Nesyri.
  • The players I’m looking at right now include En-Nesyri (easy fixture, potential captain), a second Morocco defender, Amoura from Algeria (hopefully he gets a chance after their lacklustre start) and Camara from Senegal (got a brace, great value at his price and an easy switch from Pape Matar Sarr for me). With Amoura and Camara I’ll definitely look at the predicted line-ups first to see how likely they are to start.
  • I might actually consider rolling one transfer because as I said, I’m still really happy with my team. Also, having three transfers before GW3 might save me from wildcarding.
  • Captaincy will probably be between the Morocco player I get and the always reliable Mo Salah.
  • When it comes to managing my current squad, I’m making two changes. I am benching Abdelmonem who was a let down and starting Nsue (a defender on pens playing in attack, what’s not to like?).
  • I’m also starting my back-up keeper Vozinha. I am hoping for a low scoring game against Mozambique and not really feeling Ben Said against rampant Mali.

Notes

  • My plan was to use the WC this week to cover md2 and md3.
  • Not having Mahrez and Mane did not harm me much luckily.
  • Some of the players that impressed me include N’koudou, Msakni, Ait Nouri and Mostafa Mohamed.
  • In Gameweek 2 we have some strong teams playing against each other.
  • I expect a 0-0/1-0 game for opener, a Tunisia goal fest game and Morocco guaranteeing qualifying.
  • For now my planned line-up includes Vozinha: Cape Verde played strong defensively against Ghana, they may get CS. Hakimi-Jacobs-Ait Nouri: Hakimi as always, Jacobs may get an attacking return against a poor Cameroon defence and a CS is also possible. Ait Nouri is a cheap player with a side who will look to win. Salah-Sarr-Msakni-Chaibi: Salah may struggle against Ghana but he could go big as well, Sarr against a poor Cameroon, Msakni my player of the week, expecting goal fest, Chaibi my surprise play here. He played well in first game and they are in must win position. En Nesyri-Daka-Jordan Ayew: Daka against poor Tanzania, En Nesyri is my potential captain, Jordan Ayew is my risk to play against Egypt. I may try a 3-5-2 with benching Ayew for N’koudou as well.

Notes

  • I will change some things in MD2. We are looking purely at this individual MD because I am wildcarding in MD3 to attack teams that need a win to qualify or become first.
  • I will start some of my cheap players over my more expensive players. Vozinha in goal against Mozambique is one of them. Cape Verde are always good defensively and they looked really good against Ghana and won that game.
  • Sekou Sylla also looked really good. They only conceded one goal against Cameroon who finished third in the last AFCON while playing with 10 men which is is really impressive. He will probably play over Kamory who plays the tough Tunisia defence but I’m not sure yet.
  • Hakimi, Kessié, and Salah are the only 100% nailed players in my team.
  • It is really difficult to predict who will win in the big games when most big teams aren’t performing well.
  • I will most likely bring in Nsue, he is looking really good. I am expecting a big game from Equatorial Guinea and they may even secure qualification.
  • Daka is the other player I really like but I will need to sell En-Nesyri or Osimhen for that which is hard.
  • Cape Verde, Guinea and Equatorial Guinea are the teams to really look out for next MD.
  • Salah is captain but other players are also great options.

Notes

  • My plan is to replace the back up goalkeeper with the playing one, Gaye.
  • Amoura comes into the line up but I’m not sure for who yet as I still have four player’s to play at time of posting this team. This will leave me with three transfers for Gameweek 3 and I’ll keep the WC for later.
  • I’m thinking this tournament has a few shocks in it yet.
  • Salah will be my captain now they need to win to keep progress in mind.
  • I will keep an eye on injury’s but that’s the plan going into Gameweek 2 so far.

Notes

  • The start to the tournament has been disappointing and there have been a lot of unexpected results especially for teams like Algeria, Ghana and Egypt!
  • My plan was to bring in Amoura when he returns from suspension. But, after a brilliant performance from Bounedjah I would except him to start again which means Amoura will be on the bench.
  • The priority now is to drop Kudus and Pape Matar Sarr who both didn’t make their starting 11′ due to injury. So, I’ll probably bring in two new midfielders which means moving from a 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2 formation. This also means dropping one of my defenders especially with big teams facing each other NGA Vs CIV (Konan) and CMR Vs Senegal (Niachaté).
  • This is my actual watch list of players to bring in this week: Kamory Doumbia from Mali (solid nine points in GW1 with one assist, two shots on target, two key passes and five duals won). He also played 90 mins and was very dangerous playing a vital role for the Mali attack. He faces Tunisia next who lost to Namibia and showed a bad defensive performance.
  • Iban Edú from EQG is another target (a solid nine points in GW1 with one goal, two key passes and five duals won). He also played 90 minutes against Nigeria and was very close to an assist. It would be interesting to see him against a weaker side.
  • Musa Barrow from Gambia (five points in GW1 with four key passes and seven duals won). Despite a defeat against one of the best teams in the tournament Musa was present on the pitch and creative for his teammates. I can see him on the score sheet when they face Guinea.

@PopoFpl

Notes

  • My probable moves include: Krasso -> Amoura and Boga -> Tau.
  • Ivory Coast punts went okay but it is time to move off them for GW2 as I’m using the wildcard in GW3.
  • Algeria and Morocco have the best fixtures this week so I’m happy to triple up on both.
  • I have not decided on who to captain yet.
  • I am starting Vozinha and Nsue instead of Diomande and Ben Said which was my rotation plan.
