Should we play a chip in Gameweek 20

As we approach another double Gameweek in the round ahead, many managers will be considering how to use it to get ahead of their competition. For that reason, we look at whether to play a chip in Gameweek 20 in Fantasy Premier League.

The most successful managers try to utilise the chips provided by the game in Gameweek’s where teams play twice. Looking at whether to play a chip in Gameweek 20 could be vital for long term planning and the success of a fantasy season in general.

The double Gameweek fixtures

  • Crystal Palace v Chelsea and Man United
  • Manchester City v Manchester United and Tottenham.
  • Manchester United v Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
  • Tottenham v Arsenal and Manchester City.

As we can see most of the teams that double in Gameweek 20 are facing tough fixtures. This naturally lowers the ceiling for points for any chip.

The chips available

  • Wildcard
  • Bench boost
  • Free hit
  • Triple captain

Wildcard

Due to the unlimited transfers provided by the game recently, it is unlikely that managers will be too far off where they need to be. For that reason there could be much better use of the wildcard further down the line.

Bench boost

If managers are happy with the team they have, without major surgery, and the bench players have fairly good fixtures as well, it could be worth activating it. However, the chances of better double Gameweek’s ahead are very good, so holding out on the use of the bench boost could be wise.

Free hit

The most experienced managers tend to use their free hit chip when facing blank Gameweeks. Blank Gameweek’s consist of some teams not playing in that particular week. For that reason waiting for the blank Gameweek to use the free hit would be preferred.

Triple captain

The triple captain chip is usually used on the best performing player/players in the game when they face double Gameweeks. There is some opportunity in triple captaining Erling Haaland (£12.2m) in FPL this week. However, there could be an even better option to use the triple captain chip with easier double Gameweek fixtures moving forward.

Concerned about how many double Gameweek is enough? We take a look at that right here.
