World Cup 2022 Fantasy team reveal – Matchday 6

The semi-finals take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, so here is Marc Jobling with his FIFA Fantasy team reveal.

A terrible round of quarter-final action has taken my FIFA Fantasy ranking down to 10,700th. Just 29 points were scored, with returns only from Lucas Paqueta and captain Lionel Messi.

As well as that, nine of the 15 players have now been eliminated and major surgery is needed.

Team reveal

I thought that my two outstanding transfers from Matchday 5 would get carried over but apparently they don’t. So the five new ones will only see me reach 11 players, with no bench swapping between the two nights.

Below is what I’m currently on after making the first two transfers.

Departing players are Richarlison and Bruno Fernandes, to get Olivier Giroud and Hakim Ziyech. There is no danger of players being eliminated for Matchday 7, thanks to the third-place play-off, which makes that round’s six free transfers seem a bit pointless. I can at least use it to rectify the squad size problem.

Another issue is that most squads will now look the same. Hopefully there’ll be some rank progression as I’ll remember to use the Power Captain chip but it’s probably too late. Activating it earlier was likely a more effective strategy.

The most expensive eliminated guys in my squad are Phil Foden in midfield and Denzel Dumfries and Marquinhos in defence.

I’ve got the best midfield option from three of the semi-finalists and will wait until Argentina’s team reveal to replace Foden. Wanting Angel Di Maria to be the one but it may have to be Alexis Mac Allister. Meanwhile, at the back, the other pair of moves will bring in a combination of Borna Sosa, Nahuel Molina and Dayot Upemecano.

So good luck for Matchday 6, everyone. Let’s get some points.
