Man City fixture congestion

Man City have two double gameweeks scheduled for the New Year. They are also involved in the League Cup and FA Cup, as well as the Champions League. This means that Man City’s fixture run when the Premier League restarts is busy. We take a look at what the Man City fixture congestion means for FPL.

When the players return from the World Cup Man City will start earlier than most. The blue side of Manchester face Liverpool on the 22nd of December in the League Cup Round of 16. This is followed by two Premier League matches in December. City travel to Leeds on the 28th before facing Everton at home on New Years Eve.

Man City’s January

Pep’s boys already have five fixtures scheduled for January. They play twice in Double Gameweek 20. If Man City progress in the League Cup they will have a further match in the quarter finals. If they win that there will be two more ties to play in the semi-finals of the competition.

Winning in the FA Cup would also mean a further fixture in the Fourth Round of the competition. Therefore if Man City win in both the League and FA Cups they will have nine matches to play in January. This means playing every midweek and weekend.

With Pep’s abilities to rotate his squad, this could be problematic for FPL managers.

How many Man City players?

With this many fixtures to content with in January as well as five fixtures already scheduled for February the rotation looks set to increase at Man City. City’s fixture schedule in February will also grow further if they progress in the FA Cup.

FPL managers will need to have a. bench which is able to cope with the potential rotation at Man City. Many managers will want to own Erling Haaland as well as Joao Cancelo. Managers will then have to decide whether it is worth risking rotation with a third City asset.

Kevin De Bruyne was knocked out of the World Cup after the group stages. His early return to Man City makes him an attractive option. However with the fixture schedule owning three premiums from Man City could leave managers relying on a weak bench, if Pep rotates his squad.
