Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 8?
Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 8.
Recent FPL goals
Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:
However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:
- No more than one goal
- At least nine shots
- An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
- An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20
Due a goal in Gameweek 8
The sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and arrangements for her funeral mean that there are some changes to Gamweek 8. Three fixtures have been postponed this weekend:
- Brighton v Crystal Palace
- Chelsea v Liverpool
- Man United v Leeds
None of the three players most due a goal, when ranked by xG, will therefore participate in Gameweek 8. That means Mohamed Salah (£12.9m), Darwin Nunez (£8.9m) and Solly March (£5.0m) will have to wait until after the international break
Elsewhere, cheap £5.0m midfielder Miguel Almiron has good underlying stats. With Newcastle about to face Bournemouth (H), Fulham (a) and Brentford (H), he is an interesting differential enabler.
Arsenal trio Bukayo Saka (£7.8m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.1m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£6.5m) are included too. Recently overtaken by Erling Haaland as the most-selected FPL player, some managers are starting to risk going without Jesus, having only once returned more than six points from a match.
Perhaps they should wait until after Sunday’s Brentford match. From there, fixtures turn for the Gunners, with Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City all coming to the Emirates within a four-game spell.
The final two names have very recently brought in huge FPL hauls against their Gameweek 8 opponent. Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne (£12.2m) returns to Wolves, where he scored four times and ended on 24 points in May – just four months ago. The 2020/21 trip brought a goal, assist and 13 points.
Also in May, Son Heung-min (£11.7m) scored twice on his way to a 19-point spree versus Leicester. The Foxes are the ideal obstacle for a South Koren superstar desperate to bag his first goal of the season.
