Top picks for Bundesliga Matchday 5

Last modified date

FBL Thinker is an expert in the Fantasy Bundesliga game. Each week he will be sharing his top picks by position for the upcoming Matchday. Here he talks through his top picks for Bundesliga Matchday 5.

I had a decent Matchday 4 with a lot of the expected players doing well. This pushed me up to an Overall rank of 27 in the Bundesliga game. Now we move into Matchday 5 and below are my picks for Bundesliga Matchday 5.

Forwards

Sadio Mané 16.9m)

Mane has  a tricky fixture against Union , however  he is the most  reliable option in the Bayern attack in terms of minutes and I expect the Bayern attack to do well in this match

Timo Wener (£14.1m)

Werner scored a midweek hat-trick against DFB Pokal. In Matchday 5 against a leaky Frankfurt defence he could prove to be a great differential. He has the potential to score very well

Marcus Thuram (£11.1m)

Thuram gives flexibility this week. He has a stand out fixture, as well as having good form. He is therefore an essential pick having already scored three goals in opening four matches

Midfielders

Vincenzo Grifo (14.2m)

Grifo has been one of the men in form for Freiburg and even scored in the last match. He has been one of the most consistent players in the fantasy game so far. He has a match against Leverkusen in Matchday 5 which will provide opportunities for him to get an attacking return.

Marco Reus (£15.1m)

Reus has a good fixture against Hoffenheim. This matchup has been a high scoring fixture in previous seasons. Therefore, with Reus playing a central role in Dortmund attack he is expect to do well in the match

Jonas Hofmann (£14.4m)

Hofmann has a fixture against Mainz to end Matchday 5. Gladbach are coming off an impressive draw against Bayern and Mainz do tend to concede away from home. This makes Hofmann an essential asset for this week.

Defender

Benjamin Pavard (£11.6m)

Pavard looks the best way into the Bayer backline. He is performing well this season and winning a lot of challenges. The match against Union could prove to be tricky, but Pavard can still deliver in this match also.

Christian Günter (£12.9m)

Gunter is the third highest scoring defender in the game. He has returned four back-to-back 10+ point scores. This shows the value Gunter offers. He plays Leverkusen away in Matchday 5, but irrespective of the matchup has potential to register high scores.

Ramy Bensebaini (£11.5m)

Bensebaini returns after missing out against Bayern in Matchday 4. He will play as the attacking left & with the standalone fixture provides a high point potential as well as flexibility making him essential this week

Goalkeeper

Yann Sommer(£9.5m)

Sommer was out of this world against Bayern in Matchday 4 producing a goalkeeping masterclass and accumulating 28 fantasy points. He should have an easier time against Mainz in Matchday 5.

Mark Flekken (£10.7m)

The Freiburg defence is looking good and they managed yet another clean sheet against Bochum in Matchday 4. This week he has a harder fixture against Leverkusen. However, he has a good chance of save points and also a clean sheet if Leverkusen misfire.

Alexander Schwolow(£6.2m)

Not everyday Schalke will concede six goals as they did in Matchday 4. This fixture against low scoring Stuttgart is the ideal for bouncing back. Schwolow will be looking for a cleansheet and is expected to accumulate save points also.
