Differential Potential: The best for Gameweek 38

Ahead of Gameweek 38, it’s time to find differential players that can provide a huge ranking boost for FPL managers.

Our definition of differential

For this article, we will pick several players with under 5% ownership both overall and within the top 10k. Some managers are lucky enough to still have a chip to use for the final day, although most already have a solid base consisting of strong Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal fixtures.

Using LiveFPL’s ownership figures, here are interesting differentials from the teams that play in Gameweek 38.

Liverpool 2-0 Wolves player ratings: Sadio Mane stars as Reds' title bid fails - Irish Mirror Online

Sadio Mane (Liverpool, £11.8m, owned by 4.3% overall)

Those who like omens will appreciate that Sadio Mane scored two final day goals for Liverpool at home to Wolves in 2019. It’s the same opponent this time. Indeed, Mane loves a Gameweek 38 goal – netting five during the last three.

He’s barely been an FPL name this season because of team mate Mohamed Salah, yet is the fifth highest-scoring midfielder. With uncertainties over Salah’s fitness ahead of the Champions League final, managers may be tempted by a final day punt on Mane.

Christian Eriksen (Brentford, £5.6m, owned by 1.4% overall)

By overcoming 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to defeat Everton on Sunday, Brentford have now won seven of their last ten league games. It’s an outstanding run that immediately followed a spell of just one point from the previous eight outings.

What caused this dramatic shift in form? The full debut of Christian Eriksen in Gameweek 28. Adding a world-class talent to a newly-promoted team should naturally lead to improvement. But not this much. On set-pieces, the Dane has one goal and four assists, closing the season at home to a Leeds side notorious for their leaky defence.

Danny Welbeck (Brighton, £5.9m, owned by 1.0% overall)

For those wanting a cheap forward for one match, the form of Danny Welbeck needs to be taken into consideration. Two goals and three assists have arrived during the last four matches. Opponents West Ham need a win if they want hope of finishing sixth, which may give Welbeck opportunities to catch them out.

Ryan Sessegnon (Tottenham, £4.3m, owned by 0.6% overall)

Since Sergio Reguilon’s season was ended with a groin problem, Ryan Sessegnon has started all five league games. £4.3m for a wing-back about to face last-placed Norwich seems fantastic, especially considering his almost non-existent ownership. His five appearances have seen three clean sheets, an assist and 27 FPL points.
