FPL Gossip 8th March 2022: Bowen, Azpilicueta and Haaland

A look at the latest rumours and bits of gossip that the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community is talking about.

FPL Gossip

Bowen likely to miss Sevilla trip

Having limped off at Anfield against Liverpool, the much-owned Jarrod Bowen could force FPL managers into a transfer if this heel injury is bad. According to the Evening Standard, Bowen is a major doubt for West Ham’s Europa League trip to Sevilla this Thursday.

West Ham confirmed yesterday that an initial scan revealed no serious damage to his achilles but the 25-year-old is still suffering from significant swelling. However, from an FPL perspective, the fact that the panic surrounds Thursday night suggests that it might not be much worse than that. Perhaps he just misses the weekend clash with Aston Villa.

Azpilicueta and Alonso back in training for Chelsea

Owners of Reece James are still revelling in his 18-point haul against Burnley. Yet potential buyers need to be aware that Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are back in full training.

The duo have missed Chelsea’s last two matches because of a minor knock and Covid respectively. So with a Thursday trip to Norwich and Sunday’s match against Newcastle, James’ minutes could be managed.

Man City leading the chase for Haaland

It’s a scary thought that champions Man City may retain the Premier League title without an established striker and follow that up by buying elite forward Erling Haaland. According to David Ornstein, both they and Real Madrid lead the potential suitors, with a decision to be made in the coming weeks.

Although born in Leeds, Haaland spent his early years in Manchester while father Alf-Inge played for City. If he does come to England, expect mass ownership that exceeds the initial rush of when Timo Werner joined Chelsea.
