Best front three for the next five Gameweeks

FPL forwards have been a disappointment this season, especially when compared to their midfield counterparts. With 11 Gameweeks left of the FPL season we take a look at which FPL forwards are in the best form and who is the best value for money. From Gameweek 27 who make the best front three?

Only two forwards in the game have scored over 100 points so far this season.

This is compared to 15 midfielders who have already scored over 100 FPL points. Mo Salah leads the way having returned over 200 points already.

As a result of the wealth of high performing options in midfield many FPL managers have been moving money away from the forwards. This has allowed managers to invested more of their budget in midfield.

Current ownership

Only eight forwards are currently owned by over 10% of FPL managers. Unsurprisingly it is top FPL scorers Dennis and Antonio who are the most heavily owned assets.

The lack of forwards owned by over 10% of the game means plenty diversity. As a result there is plenty of opportunity for managers to differentiate their forward lines.

Fixtures

With three back-to-back Double Gameweeks between 27 and 29 there is a good opportunity for FPL managers to target the fixtures.

Selecting the best front three for the next five Gameweeks should therefore cover plays within the Double Gameweek clubs. As well as those with the best upcoming fixtures.

Form

Harry Kane and Che Adams are top for goals scored in the last six Gameweeks with three goals each.

Kane is also top for expected goals (xG) in the same period with a total of 4.38 suggesting that he should have scored more. Cristiano Ronaldo is second for xG at 2.30 however he has only returned one goal.

Kane has also had the most goal attempts in the last six Gameweeks with 33, 13 more than Ronaldo who is in second. He is also top for big chances with seven.

Spurs’ front man also leads the way for expected goal involvement (xGI), non penalty goals and non penalty goal involvement. Suggesting that he is the forward to own. With Spurs sitting third in the Season Ticker for the next five Gameweeks, but top until the end of the season, Kane could be a great buy.

However, Wolves’ Raul Jimenez has a similiar minutes per goal tally to the Kane and he is significantly cheaper. Jimenez is priced (£43m cheaper than the Spurs forward. For managers who have moved money out of the forward line and into midfield affording the Wolves’ striker will likely be significantly easier.

Team Restructure

FPL managers who have moved to an expensive midfield will likely struggle to afford to own Harry Kane without selling one of the premium midfielders. For managers happy to restructure their team a forward line which contains Kane looks promising until the end of the season. However for managers who own Son Heung-Min and don’t want the double up or don’t want a premium forward there are plenty of options.

Kane plus two

If managers do decided to own Kane then bringing in budget enabling Armando Broja alongside him looks potential fruitful. At just £5.4m Broja will offer a counter balance to the expensive Kane, however he has plenty of potential in his own right. Broja has two goals in the last six Gameweeks, just one less than Kane. He has also had 14 attempts on goal which puts him fifth amongst forwards.

Broja has also had four big chances in the same period, this is second again only to Kane. Broja’s 105 touches in the final third since Gameweek 20 is more than the likes of Ollie Watkins, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexandre Lacazette.

Alongside Kane and Broja, FPL managers could target the Double Gameweeks:

  • Weghorst – Gameweek 27
  • Wood or Watkins or Jimenez – Gameweek 28
  • Stick with Wood or Maupay or Lacazette – Gameweek 29

By targeting additional Double Gameweek players FPL managers can ensure the most potential minutes for their assets.

No premium

For managers going without Kane, Broja is still the obvious choice in attack. However he could be paired with two Double Gameweek players who are more fluid. Owning Weghorst still seems sensible for the Burnley double in Gameweek 27. Afterwards the stats suggest Jimenez should do well, so owning him in Gameweek 28 looks promising.

Even though he is yet to score for Newcastle Chris Wood does double twice in Gameweek 28 and 29 and therefore could be a contender if he shows some form in Gameweek 27.

The underlying stats suggest that it is risky not owning Kane. However, if the money is invested already there then are a number of mid priced forwards who on paper look attractive picks for their Double Gameweeks.

Overall

If FPL budget isn’t a factor owning Harry Kane seems wise, as does pairing him with Broja. The third spot shared between the likes of Wood, Weghorst, Jimenez and Watkins to target form and fixtures. Without Kane Broja holds the third spot with spots one and two rotated with the players just mentioned to maximise minutes.

Community Chatter

Whilst Kane has all the underlying stats his blank against Burnley in the second half of Gameweek 26 has many doubting him.
