Wildcard Gameweek 9 v 10

In this article we take a look at using the Wildcard Gameweek 9 v 10. Using the Fantasy Football Scout members area we take a look at the differences between using the wildcard in either week to conclude which round is better to use the chip.

The Wildcard allows us to make as many changes to our squads as we would like up until the deadline ahead. The changes we make are permanent so the Wildcard can help managers attack fixtures swings, fix injuries or bans or for general use.

Gameweek 9 Fixtures

Who has the best fixtures?

Teams including Brentford, Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle all have great fixtures in Gameweek 9.

Who has the worst fixtures?

Brighton, Everton, Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal all have tough fixtures in Gameweek 9.

Now lets do the same for Gameweek 10 to see if there is many differences.

Gameweek 10 fixtures

Who has the best fixtures?

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, West Ham, Brighton, Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea all sit amongst the teams with the easiest fixtures.

Who has the worst fixtures?

Manchester United, Manchester City, Wolves and Brentford all rank amongst the teams with the worst fixtures.

There are notable changes between both weeks in terms of teams with good or bad fixtures but there are also some similarities. Lets put both of the fixture tickers together and them pick out.

We can see that teams who have good fixtures in both weeks include Liverpool, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle.

We can also see that some teams have an easier fixture and a tougher fixture. Those teams include Arsenal, Brentford, West Ham, Wolves, Chelsea, Manchester United and Brighton.

The old template

It could be very tempting to hold onto the Wildcard in Gameweek 9. Teams like Brentford, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea were all very popular teams to invest in at the start of the season and helped form the original template.

A lot of the appeal to hold onto the wildcard for Gameweek 9 is due to old template teams like the above having one good fixture.

Longer term

It could be important to look ahead so here we have the next five Gameweeks mapped out in fixture difficulty order. We can see that teams like Tottenham, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Newcastle all have great fixtures moving forward. All teams also have a good fixture in both Gameweek 9 and 10.

Teams with the worst fixtures include Chelsea, Manchester City, Luton and Brentford. All teams helped form the old template.

Old template team form

It is also worth highlighting team form. Some of the teams including Manchester City, Manchester United, Brentford and Chelsea may all have a great fixture in the next two matches but they have all shown huge inconsistencies as of late, some against weaker opponents. This has had a negative affect on their assets.

Price Changes

Price changes can be extremely important to FPL managers further down the line. A lot of the most experienced managers tend to build up team value and chase price rises, but only if the players rising are great long term assets.Price changes have been quite aggressive recently, especially when it comes to the players many will want in their squads for the coming weeks. The longer we leave the use of the Wildcard the further we could get behind in terms of team and player value with the speed in which popular players are rising.

Wildcard 9 v 10

Although it may be tempting to keep the Wildcard until 10 due to old template teams and players who have one good fixture in the next two Gameweeks those same teams and players have been disappointing lately.

It is also worth highlighting that most of the teams we would want to invest in long-term on the Wildcard have great fixtures in the next two and those same teams and players have shown consistency throughout the season.

Team value is also worth considering. The longer we leave the wildcard the further behind we will get with team value and the same assets that managers bought weeks ago could be a lot more expensive for us to buy.

We take a look at how many premiums we should own in FPL for the fixtures ahead. Find out in our article here.
