Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 14?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 14.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

Due a goal in Gameweek 14

Two rounds of matches have happened since our last check going into Gameweek 12. Of those, Darwin Nunez scored himself off the list, whilst Ollie Watkins finally managed to find the net – his first since Gameweek 3. It ends an eight-match streak of scoring exactly two points.

Ranked by xG

The Aston Villa forward is listed despite the goal, just like Newcastle’s Callum Wilson. He was deemed not to have fouled onrushing Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris before lifting a shot into the empty net. With Alexander Isak out until beyond the World Cup, upcoming fixtures against Aston Villa (H) and Southampton (a) provide fantastic opportunities for a short-term FPL punt.

Meanwhile, the poor form of Gabriel Jesus is not for a lack of trying. The Brazilian hasn’t scored in his last three matches and is one booking away from suspension, contributing to a recent loss of around one million managers. Yet an xG of 2.12 and xGI of 2.32 hints he is close to a goal, with Nottingham Forest the potential victims.

It’s the same Forest side that kept Mohamed Salah quiet on Saturday. Just as Salah was starting to regain trust amongst the FPL community, he blanks twice. What’s worse is that the upcoming visit of struggling Leeds will provide hope to his owners that surely he’ll score this time, right?

Neither Danny Welbeck nor Diego Costa have scored this season, although the Brighton man has at least managed to assist four times in those 912 minutes.

There is interesting out-of-position potential for Marcus Rashford, in the assumed absence of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial. Up next are West Ham (H), Aston Villa (a) and Fulham (a), making him another great option to buy.

Finally, three names from West Ham. Although Jarrod Bowen blanked and mentioned post-match that he’s probably off penalties in favour of Said Benrahma, his fantastic xG and xGI numbers of late suggest that managers should keep faith for the two home games that follow Gameweek 14’s trip to Manchester United. Gianluca Scamacca could be a logical way to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic once Fulham’s games get tough.
