Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 10?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 10.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20

It’s a very similar selection to last week, as none of those six went on to score in Gameweek 9. Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) is replaced by team-mate Martin Odegaard (£6.5m), with Everton forward Neal Maupay (£6.1m) a new addition.

Ranked in order of xG

Four of this list face each other on Sunday afternoon when Arsenal host Liverpool. Those who kept faith in Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), whether activating their Wildcard or otherwise, were again disappointed by the Egyptian King.

Whilst he did rack up an assist, it’s now four without a goal. He enjoys facing the Gunners though, with eight goals, four assists and an average of 7.27 points from 11 occasions.

Both he and Darwin Nunez (£8.8m) come up against Odegaard and Bukayo Saka (£7.8m) at the Emirates. – a duo who rank fourth and third respectively for successful passes in the final third. The victorious North London Derby was in-form Saka’s first blank in five matches, so he’s a great alternative for those that can’t accommodate Gabriel Jesus.

Elsewhere, surprise entrant Solly March (£5.0m) remains in the standings and the attacking mentality of new head coach Roberto De Zerbi could keep him there for even longer.

Maupay was known for frustrating owners when at Brighton and his inclusion here is based on only three matches since switching to Merseyside. What will put FPL managers off is the imminent return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m), where minutes will likely be shared.

Finally, it’s scary to suggest that Kevin De Bruyne (£12.4m) is underachieving, having racked up eight assists in eight games. Yet the game’s top-scoring midfielder hasn’t scored since Gameweek 2. Opponents Southampton have just lost to Everton, Aston Villa and Wolves, so the Belgian will expect to inflict more pain on Saturday.
