Which Chelsea players have impressed so far?
We bring in regular Fantasy Football Community contributor and Chelsea fan @FPLReaction to answer a question many have been pondering for their fantasy teams ahead of the new season, which Chelsea players have impressed so far?
Chelsea have become one of the most interesting teams to watch during pre-season and their assets have come under the spotlight from a fantasy point of view. So, which Chelsea players have impressed so far?
Ben Chilwell
For me, Ben Chilwell (£5.5m) has been one of our star performers during pre-season. He looks back to full fitness and that showed in his hunger to advance forward. Chilwell defended well and attacked excellently – scoring in a match against Wrexham and coming close with two snap shots against Premier League side Brighton.
Levi Colwill
Another player to impress me during pre-season was centre-back Levi Colwill (£4.5m). Due to injuries and his fantastic season with Brighton on loan last season Colwill looks set to be a mainstay in the backline for Chelsea. He looked strong, defended well and showed everyone he was ready for first team action for the new season. Colwill could be one of the cheapest ways into our defence this season.
Nicolas Jackson
I was slightly underwhelmed when Chelsea announced the signing of striker Nicolas Jackson (£7m) from Villarreal but boy was I wrong! Jackson has probably been our standout attacker during pre-season. Not only does he have fantastic speed and footwork but he also has the coolness to finish chances. During his pre-season matches so far he has picked up three assists and two goals in three matches.
Jackson was the focal point to the Chelsea attack in the most recent game which could indicate it will stay that way at the start of the Premier League season. However, that could change but if it does not then he could be a fantastic option for FPL managers.
Christopher Nkunku
Another player who has hugely impressed me so far is striker Christopher Nkunku (£7.5m). The Frenchman seems to have settled really well and built in-game connections with other players very quickly.
Nkunku played both as a striker and just behind Nicolas Jackson when they were both on the pitch, but one important factor to highlight is that he has looked like the minutes machine out of both options. In the three matches he played for Chelsea he banked two calmly finished goals reflecting his ability in front of goal.
There is no telling who will take the Chelsea penalties this season but many fans like myself back Nkunku to take them. With that in mind, along with the above, he stands out as the attacker to go to in FPL.
Players to monitor
- Reece James (£5.5m) – James returned to first team football in Chelsea’ most recent game against Newcastle. Although he picked up plenty of game time parts of his performance still looked rusty and because of that should me monitored for the remainder of pre-season.
- Mykhailo Mudryk (£6.5m) – Looks very sharp and feel like he has mounds of potential. He has been a very exciting watch in pre-season so far. Not only has he scored but he looks much fitter, more settled and ready to become the player everyone knows he can be. I would almost certainly be monitoring him early on to see if he can hold a left wing position ahead of Raheem Sterling (£7m).
