What to do with Son Heung-Min
Spurs assets have been a big topic of conversation in the FPL community this season. Son Heung-Min has been discussed as a must own, an easy sell, as well as someone who is massively underperforming their expected returns. Having returned 48 points in Gameweeks 30-32, Son has now blanked in the last two. So what to do with Son is now a key topic of discussion.
Son is the top scoring FPL player at Spurs so far this season. Indeed only Liverpool’s Mo Salah has returned more FPL points than Son this season. However, the five midfielder spots have been prioritised by FPL managers this season. So should managers look to move Son on on the back of two blanks?

The case to sell Son
In the last two Gameweeks Spurs have failed to score a goal. In the same period Man City have returned eight, Arsenal seven and Liverpool six. Spurs have not only failed to score, they have failed to record a single shot on target. At £11m Son is a substantial FPL investment and there are other assets who could offer better returns per million.
Son has had just two goal attempts in the last two Gameweeks. This is less than teammate Bentancur who has four and level with Kulusevski who is four million cheaper than Son. Indeed, there are 45 midfielders who have had more goal attempts than Son in the last two Gaemeweeks.
The Spurs midfielder has also created just two chances in the last two Gameweeks. This is significantly lower than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Mason Mount and Bukayo Saka who have nine, six and six respectively.
The case to hold or buy Son
When considering what to do with Son managers should consider more than just the previous two Gameweeks. The last time that Son blanked in consecutive matches this season he went on to register 48 goals in the next three Gameweeks.
Son has a great record against Gameweek 35 opponents Leicester. The South Korean captain has returned in five of his last six matches against Leicester in the Premier League and in that time has averaged 6.33 points per match.
Spurs need to win every game between now and the end of the season if they are to qualify for the Champions League next season. The Lily White’s fixture run therefore suggests that managers should hold Son.
It isn’t just Gameweek 35 opponents Leicester that Son has a good record against.
- Gameweek 36 – Liverpool: Son has returned in two of the last three Premier League matches against Liverpool. Averaging 6 points per match.
- Gameweek 36 – Arsenal: Son has returned in four of the last five Premier League matches against Arsenal. In that time averaging 7.8 points per match.
- Gameweek 37 – Burnley: Son has returned three double digit hauls in the last four matches against Burnley. In that time averaging 9 points per match.
- Gameweek 38 – Norwich: Son has returned 20 points in his last two meetings with Norwich in the Premier League.
Overall
In the last two Gameweeks three are other FPL midfielders who have been in better form than Son and Spurs. However, with Son’s fixture run, his historic records and Spurs fixtures he would still be a difficult sell.
