UCL Fantasy best captain for Matchday 9

Champions League football continues! We pick out the UCL Fantasy best captain for Matchday 9. Using stats, form and fixture we can shortlist some of the best options for UCL Fantasy managers to give the armband ahead of the new round.

Highlighting the best captain for Matchday 9 can be detrimental to both rank and a manager’s total points at the end of the Matchday. Making sure we take in as much information we can adds to the probability of a successful captaincy matchday.

The standout captain for Tuesday 11th April

Managers only have two opportunities at captaincy success in Matchday 9 so making sure we play it safe could be key. Manchester City face a home game against German giants Bayern in the round ahead. The home side come into the tie in great form, winning eight of their last 10 matches, drawing two and remaining unbeaten.

In that same period the English side have also netted a monstrous 33 goals, averaging 3.3 goals scored per game. The standout captaincy option for the first day is Erling Haaland (€11m). The striker has been in relentless form this season, banking an incredible 30 goals and five assists in 27 league matches. To highlight his explosiveness the Norwegian hit five goals in his previous Champions League match and collected 25 points for his efforts. Taking penalties and in imperious form, Haaland could have massive potential going into the new round. Factoring all of the above into account Haaland is the best captain for Matchday 9.

Other options for Tuesday 11th April

Benfica face a home match against Inter in the first leg of the quarter finals. The Portuguese side come into the game in great form. In their last 10 matches in all competitions they have racked up eight wins whilst losing just two.

In that same period Benfica have also kept five clean sheets. They are in great scoring form as well notching up a huge 25 goals which averages 2.5 goals per game. Their opponents Inter are in questionable form, failing to win any of their last six matches the Italian side have also kept just one clean sheet in the same period and scored just twice.

With only two captaincy options in Matchday 9 managers could be looking to move more conservatively with their selection. The safest player to give the armband to from Benfica is midfielder Joao Mario (€6.4m). Mario has notched up an impressive 17 goals and six assists domestically, mustering up seven goals and three assists in his last 10 games. The winger also takes his teams penalties which gives him an additional route to points.

Another great captaincy option could be striker Goncalo Ramos (€9m). Ramos has become one of the most sought after strikers in European football. His recent form has also highlighted his potential, picking up seven goals and two assists.

The standout captain for Wednesday 12th April

Real Madrid have a home game against Chelsea in the first leg of the quarter finals. The Spanish side have proven that their domestic form has no effect on their European performances which means their league form can not be taken into account when considering their assets for captaincy.

One player who does convert his domestic form into European form is Karim Benzema (€10.7m). The penalty taker has managed 11 goals and two assists in his last 10 matches in all competitions. The Frenchman faces an inconsistent Chelsea side under new management so could have massive potential going into his Matchday 9 game.

Other options for Wednesday 12th April

Before moving away from Real Madrid it could be wise to also consider midfielder Vinicius Junior (€10.1m). The Brazilian has continued his top form from last campaign. Vinicius has collected at least one return in seven of his eight Champions League matches so far. Against an edgy Chelsea backline and maintaining a solid Champions League output, Junior could be a great captaincy option.

Moving onto one of the most in-form teams in world football we head to Napoli. The Italian side have been superior domestically this season as they sit 16 points clear in Serie A. Their most recent form is also worth considering as they have banked eight wins, losing just two.

In that same 10-match period Napoli have netted 20 goals, averaging two goals scored per game. The standout option from the frontline is Victor Osimhen (€7.9m), The Nigerian frontman is the focal point to the Napoli attack and has racked up eight goals and one assist in his last 10 matches in all competitions. His opponent, AC Milan, have shown huge inconsistencies all season and because of that could be a team to target.

The second half of Napoli’s deadly duo could also be considered for captaincy. Khvicha Kavaratskhelia (€5.9m) has been a sensation this campaign and similar to his teammate, has perked the interest of Europe’s elite clubs. The Georgian has managed four goals and two assists in his last 10 matches. The winger also takes his teams penalties giving him an additional route to points.
