Top targets for Gameweek 1
Ahead of the Gameweek 1 deadline managers will have some big decisions to make. Since the launch of the game managers will have created multiple drafts, but now is the time to finalise decisions. Here we look at the top targets for Gameweek 1 for FPL managers per position.
Every Gameweek we will look at the top target per position.
Goalkeeper
Alisson (£5.5m) – Liverpool
Liverpool and Alisson play newly promoted Fulham in Gameweek 1. Alisson averages 4.53 points per match against the newly promoted teams.
Alisson was the top points scoring goalkeeper last season, he returned 176 points. This was 18 more than any other goalkeeper in the game. He was also tied with Ederson for the Golden Glove having kept 20 clean sheets in 35 appearances. In addition he was top for bonus points amongst goalkeepers with 15 and returned on average 4.9 points per match, more than any other first choice goalkeeper.
Defender
Keiran Trippier (£5.0m) – Newcastle
Trippier scored twice and collected a clean sheet in four appearances last season, until his broken foot ruled him out for 10 Gameweeks. Trippier has the added appeal of set piece duty with free kicks part of his game.
The chances of a clean sheet for Trippier and Newcastle have also been boosted by the arrival of Nick Pope (£5.0m), Sven Botman (£4.5m) and Matt Targett (£5.0m) who has now signed permanently.
Trippier faces newly promoted Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 1. The defender averages 5.47 points per match against teams who are new to the league.
Midfielder
Mo Salah (£13.0m) – Liverpool
Salah averages 6.38 points per match against the newly promoted sides. He also returned eight points on his last Premier League visit to opponents Fulham where he scored a goal and returned a bonus point in 2020.
Salah was the highest scoring player in FPL last season and will likely be the highest captained player in Gameweek 1.
Forward
Harry Kane (£11.5m) – Spurs
Kane has returned at least 17 goals in each of his last eight seasons in the Premier League. In the last two seasons he has had 65 goal contributions. In Gameweek 1 Kane faces Southampton. The forward has a fantastic record against the Saints averaging 7.29 points per match against them with 11 goals, six assists and 15 bonus points.
Kane will likely be overlooked by a number of FPL managers who target Haaland in the premium forward position. However, for Gameweek 1 Kane has the better fixture. The Spurs man has also had a fantastic pre-season. Kane scored a brace against Rangers, which has brought his pre-season goal contributions tally to five goals and one assist.
