Should I use my final chip in FPL Gameweek 37?
Managers only have two more opportunities for FPL chip usage until the season ends – Gameweek 37 and Gameweek 38.
According to the excellent LiveFPL site, around 88% of managers still have at least one more chip to activate – some even have multiple.
And whilst Double Gameweek 37 will undoubtedly see heavy usage, we ask whether they could be better saved for the final day. A somewhat luxurious move, it would certainly make that Sunday afternoon more enjoyable, especially knowing there’s potential line-up leaks for all 20 teams playing simultaneously.
Let’s go through the chips one-by-one.
USING A CHIP IN GAMEWEEK 37
BENCH BOOST
Whether you used a Wildcard in Gameweek 30, 31 or 35, the epicentre has always been Bench Boost 37. Although Double Gameweek 34 saw more teams play twice, the half-dozen here includes more FPL-friendly teams.
These also have the benefit of attractive surrounding fixtures, meaning there’s no suffering beforehand or afterwards.
With the Premier League table having tight races for the title, European and relegation spots, the usual late line-up rotations shouldn’t be a worry anymore. If you still have the Bench Boost chip, it needs using now because Gameweek 38 has no team playing twice.
FREE HIT
However, those managers lacking in Chelsea, Man City, Newcastle and Spurs players have probably suffered in recent times. Using a Free Hit on these gives a chance to redeem some points, even if it’s only 11 men.
At least more money can go on these, rather than the squad depth needed to Bench Boost.
But alternative Gameweek 38 usage allows you to take advantage of whichever line-up information is around pre-deadline. Shock rests can be avoided, with late punts being made on a traditionally high-scoring day of football.
TRIPLE CAPTAIN
The leading candidates for Gameweek 37’s armband are Erling Haaland (£14.2m), Cole Palmer (£6.2m), Alexander Isak (£8.4m) and Son Heung-min (£9.9m). If using the Triple Captain chip goes well, those extra points could well equal out the Bench Boost ones gained from the sidelines.
Meanwhile, although it’s always best to activate this in a Double Gameweek, if it’s somehow not been used in any of this season’s six, a final-day punt is always fun.
WILDCARD
FPL’s most important chip. Using it in Gameweek 37 is too late to make an impact but it’s even more pointless in Gameweek 38.
Only the leading managers that nailed their team all along will still have a Wildcard left. It’d be the ultimate brag.
If their squad is doing so well, it probably already contains the same sides about to double so a Wildcard won’t change much. But it needs to be used eventually.
