Players who could make a mockery of their price-tags in FPL
As the new Premier League season approaches it could be worth looking at players who could make a mockery of their price-tags in FPL. We pick the standout options likely to out perform their price-tag in the new campaign.
Looking at players who could make a mockery of their price-tags in FPL could be really helpful when selecting players for the new season. It give us a good idea of which players could be great value for money and also highlight their potential for the campaign ahead.
Bukayo Saka – £8.5m
Arsenal were brilliant last season and one of the reasons for that was their impressive offensive line. In terms of their attacking data last campaign amongst all teams they ranked second for goals scored (88) and second for goals scored in the box (75). The ‘Gooners’ are expected to have another amazing season and judging by their data from last season all signs are pointing towards investing in their attack.
One of their standout attackers is Bukayo Saka. The Englishman was amongst the six players to claim over 200 points in FPL last season – scoring 14 goals and producing 12 assists leading to 26 goal contributions. Saka returned at a premium rate in 22/23. His £8.5m price-tag is arguably much less than what he should have been given.
Pervis Estupinan – £5m
FPL managers flocked to the Brighton assets after their wonderful season last time out. Not only did they secure European football but they maintained some of the best underlying defensive data in the league – they ranked third best for shots on target conceded (131) and top five for shots in the box conceded (286) and total attempts on goal conceded (388).
Pervis Estupinan currently sits as the highest owned defender ahead of the new season (51%) and it comes as no surprise. The full-back ranked in the top 10 highest scoring defenders in the game last season and he played less minutes than the majority of those around him. Not just this but he also ranked seventh for non-penalty expected goal involvement when compared to every other defender (5.68).
Gabriel – £5m
Another Arsenal player could make a mockery of their price-tag for the campaign ahead. Arsenal may have maintained some great attacking data but they also sustained very good defensive stats. In fact, they ranked joint second best for goals conceded (43), joint second best for clean sheets (14) and second best for total attempts on goal (342).
With the above in mind, the Arsenal defence as a whole could be one of the best to invest in. One player in particular could provide excellent value for money and that player is Gabriel. The centre-back was a major goal threat last season – Amongst all defenders in the game he sat joint third best for attempts on goal (32). With clean sheets and attacking threat it was a major surprise for many that Gabriel came in at just £5m.
Who else could make a mockery of their price-tag?
- Brighton assets – Although we have one already included above, Brighton as a whole could prove amazing value for money. Some of those assets include goalkeeper Jason Steele (£4.5m), midfielders Solly March (£6.5m) and Julio Enciso (£5.5m) and striker Evan Ferguson (£6m). The Brighton players could definitely make a mockery of their price-tags in FPL.
- Bryan Mbeumo (£6.5m) – The Brentford midfielder could be in for a big season. He managed 17 goal contributions last campaign and will likely take penalties during teammate Ivan Toney’ ban.
- Chelsea – With a new manager in charge and early signs of massive improvements already some of the Chelsea players could well and truly embarrass their price-tags. Some of those players include defender Levi Colwill (£4.5m), midfielders Raheem Sterling (£7m), Mykhailo Mudryk (£6.5m) and Ian Maatsen (£5.5m) and strikers Christopher Nkunku (£7.5m) and Nicolas Jackson (£7m).
- Eberechi Eze (£6.5m) – Crystal Palace improved massively towards the end of last season under Roy Hodgson. One his most potent attackers is Eze who looks set to play a talismanic role whilst also taking penalties.
- Phil Foden (£7.5m) – Manchester City have the most potent attack in the division and if Foden can solidify his place in the first team he could be set for a hugely successful campaign. Some even believe that if Foden maintains a spot in the line-up he could return a premium rate of FPL points.
- Sven Botman (£4.5m) – Newcastle held some of the best defensive numbers in the league in 22/23 so if they can repeat that £4.5m could be a huge discount.
